Grandparents' / Grandfriends' Day

The OLP community welcomed over 400 Grandparents and Grandfriends on Friday, October 23, 2015.  Students played games, did crafts, and showed their grandparents what a great school OLP is.  The afternoon concluded with a prayer service in the OLP Church where awards were given to the Grandparent who travled the farthest, the oldest and youngest grandparent, the grandparent with the most grandchildren, and the oldest grandparent who is an alumnus of Our Lady of Peace.  The fourth grade class ended the prayer service with a special song for grandparents.

A HUGE thank you goes out to the sixth grade families for hosting the event! Thank you also for all of the donations and to all those who volunteered their time to help make the afternoon a success!

To see more pictures from Grandparents' / Grandfriends' Day check out the OLP Facebook page.
Red Ribbon Week
     October 26-30, 2015

Yesterday began Red Ribbon Week at OLP.  Each day has a different theme to encourage students to be "Drug Free."

Monday - "I Believe in Me - Happy, Healthy, & Drug Free."

Tuesday - "Our School Rocks"

Wednesday - "Don't Let Drugs Twist Your Mind."

Thursday - "I Have the Power to Be Drug Free."

Friday - "Say 'Boo' to Drugs."

Dismissal Safety
The staff of OLP, with the help of parish volunteers, works hard to make arrival and dismissal safer for everyone.
If your child is a car rider, please help us promote safety by remembering to follow these rules in the afternoon:
  • You must park in a lined parking space.
  • You must walk up to the coned area if front of the main entrance of the building and pick up your child.
  • Children are not permitted to leave the coned area without an adult to accompany them.
  • If you do not go directly to your car, please make sure that your child remains with you.
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Cafeteria Helpers

Mothers, fathers, grandparents, friends, please remember to check the school lunch calendar (link on the left side of the newsletter) for the day(s) you are assigned to help in the cafeteria.  Arrival time is 10:30a.m. and finish at approximately 1:00p.m.

If there is a problem with the day(s) you are scheduled, please call the school at (814)838-3548 and let the cafeteria know.  We will be happy to try to accommodate you.

HELP! COACHES NEEDED - 2015-2016 P.L.A.Y Basketball

P.L.A.Y. is an 9 week + playoffs youth basketball league for boys grades 1st - 4th and girls grades 1st through 6th. Registration closed last week, and we have more than 75 kids registered to participate. We try to keep the teams small so we can provide more touch time and playing time for each child. With such great participation, we need more coaches especially at the first and second grade level.

This program does not work without the help of our parent coaches. The time commitment is 2, 1-hour practices a week in November & December and 1 practice per week plus 1 game in January & February. Have a buddy you want to coach with? Just let us know. If you signed your child up for P.L.A.Y, please consider volunteering your time to coach.
Contact Stephanie Spence by October 29th with any questions or to volunteer: stephspence@roadrunner.com
or at 814.572.3972.

Advent Wreath Lighting
The lighting of the Advent wreath is a long-standing Catholic tradition. The candles remind us that although we are journeying to the darkest nights of the year, Jesus has brought light and life into the darkness.
Our tradition here at OLP has included offering all families the opportunity to assist with the wreath lighting during the weekend Masses throughout Advent. We will be continuing that tradition this year and invite you to prayerfully consider volunteering.
Sign-up sheets will be in the vestibule from Saturday, October 31, 2015, through Sunday, November 22, 2015.
The candle lighting is a very simple, yet significant, part of our Advent journey. Please consider being a part of this OLP tradition.
