Standardized Tests ~ TerraNova

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

In your Tuesday folder today you will find a letter from Kimberly Lytle, Director of Curriculum for the Diocese of Erie, which explains the switch for standardized testing to the TerraNova and the InView for our students in grades 2 through 8. Please take the time to read this informative explanation.

All students at Our Lady of Peace School will take a practice test this Thursday to help them prepare for the change in the testing format.

It is important that we all keep in mind that this is only one part of the picture of your child's strengths and weaknesses. Teachers will combine these results with observations, day to day class work, and communication with you to mold effective plans and lessons for your children.

Please help us to make sure your child's test experience is successful by making sure they are well rested and encouraging them to do their best!

Blessings,
Miss Ek

OLP Annual Pet Blessing
Friday, October 2, 2015, 2:00p.m.

St. Francis
It has become a tradition at Our Lady of Peace School to commemorate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi which is celebrated on the liturgical calendar on October 4th.
St. Francis had a love for all living creatures and a special fondness for animals.

All students in Grades K -8 will gather at 2:00p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2015, by the St. Francis Statute which is near the main entrance of the school.  Students as well as parishioners are invited to bring their pets whether it is a snake, turtle, cat or dog, etc. to this special ceremony.  In case of inclement weather, the blessing will be held in the gymnasium.  The blessing will be led by various clergy of Our Lady of Peace.  This event is a great opportunity to bring the parish and school community together and one that is looked forward to by the students.

If you are planning to attend this event and wish to take your child home with you after the blessing, you will need to send a note to your child's homeroom teacher.

Sports' Day Conclusion

What a Sports' Day we had at OLP this year! God provided a beautiful day to be outdoors. World record jump-roper Peter Nestler (http://www.jumprm.com), Zumba for Kids Instructor, Jaclyn Harmon (http://www.Jaclynharmon.Zumba.com) and IRock Fitness Youth Trainers (http://www.irockfitness.com) all helped make the day extra special and informative for OLP students..

Students thoroughly enjoyed the activities with their teachers and the numerous parents who helped out this year. Whether relay races, beanbag and parachute games, tag, ultimate frisbee, jailball or kickball students were actively engaged and having fun. Thank you parents and teachers for making this a successful Sport Day for all.

Culminating the day's activities was the Fall Pep Rally honoring those athletes participating in all fall sports. Fr. David and Miss. Ek did a wonderful job as Masters of Ceremony. JV Cheerleaders demonstrated their skills and coaches (and Student Council Officers) came up with some creative ways to introduce their teams. The 8th grade demonstrated their dance moves for an extra bonus at the very end.

Last, but certainly not least, the Sport Day committee (Ms. Turley, Mrs. Smith, Miss. Turowski, Mrs. Fustine, Mrs. Reichert, and Miss. Jacobs) did a great job working together and organizing this event.

Congratulations and a great big thank you to all!
