Support OLP Athletics

What do you know about Athletics?

Did You Know?

  1. Did you know that it cost almost $50,000 annually to run athletics at OLP?
  2. Did you know that OLP athletics operates in the red just about each & every year?
  3. Did you know that OLP athletics rarely can afford to invest money in sports facilities and in our grounds?
  4. Did you know of the $20 that you paid for your child's activities fee that $17 goes directly to the Diocese of Erie and three dollars remains in the athletic budget?
  5. Did you know that OLP athletics has to approve anywhere between 15 and 20 fundraising activities yearly to support your child's athletics? This is the nickel and dime effect that frustrates many of you.
  6. Did you know that coaches, who volunteer their time, are burdened with coordinating the fundraising activities?
  7. Did you know most of the other catholic schools have a mandatory fundraising fee added onto tuition ... OLP does not.

What Can We do?

  1. So, what if we thought differently and bigger about OLP athletics?
  2. What if we could host one single fundraising effort that could benefit all of your children in OLP athletics and help to eliminate other athletic fundraising activities?
  3. The questions is what can we do? How do we do it? When could we start?
  4. Shortly your child's coach and/or the athletic liaison for their sport(s) will be contacting you with specific details of what will be needed from all of us to make this a success.

Here's how:

  1. OLP Athletics Association board members have taken the lead to create something new!
  2. The board members personally utilized their own funds to invest in an OLP Sports Lottery based off of the Pennsylvania BIG 4 lottery.
  3. The OLP Athletics board members themselves feel so strongly about Your Child's athletics that they have committed to 100% participation. Each member has pledged $250 towards the sales of tickets to the success of this lottery.
  4. We obviously can't be successful alone, and we ask your support. So we are asking you to help us help your child to succeed.

So What Is This Lottery & How Does it Work?

What is it?

It is a Big 4 Lottery based off of the Pennsylvania Big 4 Evening Lottery.

When Does It Begin?

Ticket sales begin now, but the actual lottery begins June 1 and runs through June 30 and will have a daily winner with no less than a $500 winner and a maximum of a prize of $1500.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of the ticket is $10 per ticket, and the ticket is good for each day for the entire month of June.   So that's $10 for 30 days and 30 chances to win.

How Does It Work?

The answer is simple. Each day from June 1 through June 30, you watch the Pennsylvania Big 4 evening lottery. If your ticket number matches straight (no box winners) YOU WIN!

How Much Can You Win?

The lowest amount you can win is $500 with a maximum amount you can win of $1500 on a daily basis.

But you have to play to win!!!

Who Benefits from this Lottery?

Now you're probably wondering about the revenues that are generated and what happens with those proceeds?

This is what we the OLP Board Members like best about this lottery,

Your Child Benefits!

The Hope is to eliminate the 15 to 20 small fundraisers yearly!

Here is a breakdown:

  1. We pay back to the participants up to $20,000 in winnings.
  2. We contribute 20% of proceeds up to $20,000 annually in support of OLP School and our children.
  3. And hopefully up to $60,000 goes directly into OLP athletics and supports your children.

That sounds like a big number, and you're right, it is, but remember

A. The annual OLP athletics budget is $50,000.

B. We operate with a losing budget. In other words we lose money                yearly.

If and when successful, this lottery allows athletics to support itself and have some money to put back into the facilities and grounds in which your child plays athletics.

Tickets will be sold by multiple avenues.  The OLP athletic teams will be selling tickets.  There will be tables in the back of the church after various Masses.  Tickets will also be sold at Casino Night and Sense-sational Evening.  If you would like tickets, contact Ferdinando Mirarchi at mirarchifl@upmc.edu
