Safe and Caring Schools

The Safe and Caring Schools theme for November and December is "Building Communication."

The theme's focus is on friendship, getting along in small groups, and peer pressure. Students will share what the qualities of a good friend are and who makes up their personal support system. Key words discussed are; appreciation, dependability, empathy, loyalty, support and trust.

Crusader Challenge

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is with great pleasure that I announce we raised $30,038 for the Crusader Challenge as of today! Your participation in the annual fund this year will assist the school in purchasing the necessary materials to keep OLP's learning environment relevant with the ever changing times. A full report will be available detailing how the funds will be used once the proper authority makes the decision.

First item on the shopping list is going to be made by Mrs. Pisano's class 3B who won the $500 gift certificate to purchase educational materials for their classroom; word in the lunchroom is they want a whiteboard! They raised an astonishing $5,970. A close second was 3C raising $5,585 and in third was 2A raising $2,453. Fin from Splash Lagoon will be making a special appearance in these classrooms to bring your children a surprise for their participation. Parents, thank you endlessly for your hard work!

Next, I would like to take a minute to go over the details of the Splash Lagoon trip. Please find attached a copy of the attractions and water depths at Splash Lagoon.

SPLASH LAGOON DETAILS

Who is going?

To clear up any questions you may have; as of today, we have a total of 357 rsvps, which includes 86 parents and chaperones. Again, the park is open only to OLP families.

What if I didn't RSVP?

You may still purchase tickets at the discounted rate on Wednesday. There will be OLP staff available to identify you as an OLP family. It is truly recommended that you RSVP in advance to prevent any admission problems.

What if my child cannot swim?

If your child does not know how to swim, please contact Ashley Caldwell at 838-3548 or via email at acaldwell@olpcrusaders.org to request a "white" wristband for your child. This will assist Splash Lagoon staff and OLP chaperones with making sure your child has a lifejacket on. Any student with a white wristband will be required to wear a lifejacket in any of the pool areas.

Body Slides

The body slides restrict children from wearing lifejackets for their own safety. The body slides do not have a pool of water at the end, except for the Hurricane Hole which restricts children under 48" from riding.

Wave Pool questions

All children under 48" must wear a life jacket in the wave pool. The wave pool will be roped off at 3.5 ft for this trip. There will be several Splash Lagoon staff and one Splash Lagoon Supervisor ensuring safety and regulation of swimmers height for the wave pool.

Chaperones

As noted, chaperones will be located throughout the whole park. There are several chaperone stations that will be set up and also chaperones in the water at all times with your children. Each attraction will also be "manned" by Splash Lagoon staff to ensure safety.

How do I drop my kids off?

If you are dropping your kids off, there is a drop off valet area in the front of the park. If you would like to make sure your children are situated, please park your vehicle to ensure smooth traffic patterns. This is the same for pick up as well. If you want to assist your student with getting dressed, please let your children know ahead of time and be available by 5:30 to assist them in the park dressing rooms. We will be making an announcement at 5:30 over the loud speaker to start getting kids dressed.

Miscellaneous

Please do not forget to send a towel with your child as Splash Lagoon no longer provides them to guests.

The arcade will be open along with the Laguna Grill for food purchases.

God Bless,

Ashley Caldwell

Book Fair

At OLP November means the Scholastic Book Fair is coming. We will be offering OLP School students the opportunity to purchase books on November 19, 20, and 21, 2014. Parents and others who might be interested in browsing and purchasing books from the fair are invited to come to the school library during the following times at parent conferences. The fair will be open Monday, November 24, 2014, from 9:00-11:00 a.m.,

1:00-8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, November 25, 2014, from 9:00a.m. - 4:00 p.m. You may go online to scholastic.com/fair and purchase books using a credit card starting November 13 - 30, 2014. All books will be delivered to the school and the school still will receive credit for those purchased online. This makes it easy for those loved ones who live out of town to purchase a book/gift for your student.

Books make an enduring and treasured gift. Scholastic provides a wide selection of popular, quality material for children of all ages, as well as a nice selection for adults. We feel you will have no problem finding a wonderful Christmas present for the book lover in your family. We will provide a classroom wish list from each teacher so that you may purchase a book needed for the classroom as well.

Cash, credit cards and checks made payable to
Our Lady of Peace
are accepted as payment.

A 6% sales tax will need to be added to your order.

Books are purchased at the fair. If the book is not available from the shelf at that time, it will be ordered. Payment is made and the book will be delivered to the library after Thanksgiving. Purchasers will be notified when the books have arrived. All orders will be processed well in advance of the Christmas holiday.

The Book Fair is the only means of raising revenue for the purchase of books for the school library. We truly appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at the fair. If you have any questions regarding the fair, please contact me at

"Walk in Their Shoes"

An OLP Girl Scout Sponsored Bake Sale to Collect New and Gently Loved Shoes

CHOCOLATE LOVERS! Come out to Our Lady of Peace Church Nov. 15-16 with new or gently used children's shoes and get some of yummy treats!

This past weekend the K-8 OLP Girl Scouts attended with Mom's (grandmas, dads, buddys) a Girl Scout meeting where they decorated aprons to wear during the shoe/bake exchange during the Nov. 15-16 OLP Masses. PLUS heard from Chaplain Andy of the Erie City Mission on how their hard work will make a big difference in our Erie community.

After the meeting, some of the girls worked together and made 4 sheets of brownies, 4 bags of chocolate covered pretzel rods, and 2 bags of marshmallows.  More baking is going on all week in the homes of our Girl Scouts to prepare for the weekend - get your sweet tooth ready!

"Walk in their shoes" is this weekend at Our Lady of Peace Masses Saturday and Sunday. Bring in new or gently used children's shoes (especially snow boots!) and our OLP Girl Scouts will give you a plate of their yummy baked goods! The shoes will then be given to the Erie City Mission's clothing store where they will give them away to those in desperate need of shoes.
