 The I.N.F.O.
From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It seem like it was only yesterday we were celebrating the start of a new school year, and here we are at the end of the first academic quarter already.

Parent involvement in our school has given us much to be thankful for at OLP. The Athletic Association, School Advisory Council and the Family and School Association provide support for our school community and its programs for students in countless ways. Volunteers in many facets of the school life help us maintain a safe and caring environment. Whether it be organizing a Grandparents Day, an athletic event or lending a hand in the cafeteria, it makes our partnership with you stronger.

As you know, we will have our Parent -Teacher Conference days on November 24th and 25th. We regard this conference as a most valuable event in your child's educational program. This occasion provides an important opportunity to affirm the good work and set goals for growth academically and personally. The students in grades five through eight will attend the conference. This approach gives ownership to the student as to what they need to do to be a successful student. While you visit, make sure to visit the book fair and stop in the computer lab to see our iPad cart.

The holiday season is approaching quickly. The different grades are discussing and planning for their annual Advent Project to reach out to organizations in the area. FSA is promoting "The Caring Tree" to aid people in the school community during the holiday season. Many charities have benefited from the generosity of our school. Teachers and parents working together to teach children at a young age about stewardship is evident at OLP.

On behalf of Father Glenn, the faculty, staff and students I wish you a happy Thanksgiving.

Blessings,

Miss Mary Beth Ek

"Walk in Their Shoes"

An OLP Girl Scout Sponsored Bake Sale to Collect New and Gently Loved Shoes

November 15 and 16 at All Masses

Girl Scouts make the world a better place. One way to do that is to make sure everyone's basic needs are met. Our Girl Scouts are natural "philanthropists" in wanting to help those in our community who are less fortunate.

Over the summer, some of our 2nd grade Girl Scouts encountered some young inner-city children who were clearly dirty and neglected. The girls wanted to do something for them and for other children in Erie who were in their shoes.

We contacted the Erie City Mission and were told that the biggest need right now for these children is shoes - all kinds of shoes - as the ones they are sent to school in are ripped, have holes in them and have soles that are coming apart.

To this end, all 3 of the OLP Girl Scout Troops will be holding a bake sale for shoes at all masses the weekend of November 15 and 16th. We ask that you look around your home and start collecting gently loved shoes for these children. We will be collecting these shoes at the end of all masses. As a thank you, you will be able to pick a homemade treat from the Girl Scout Bakery set up in the back of church at all of the masses.

All sizes and shoe styles will be accepted - from infant/toddler to adult.

Please contact Jenny Poff at 806.4691 or email jenny@presqueisledesigns.com with any questions.

ATTENTION ALL OLP GIRL SCOUTS (Grades K-8)
To kick off the "Walk in Their Shoes" event, we invite you and your moms to join us Saturday, November 8 at 9am - 11am in the OLP Cafeteria for a fun Mother/Daughter Scout Meeting. We have a guest speaker from the Erie City Mission coming to talk to our girls about how our special Bake Sale/Shoe event will benefit the kids in our local Erie Community. As well as a special craft project with our moms! We will also have volunteer signs up available for our Nov. 15-16 sale and don't forget to buddy up with a mother/daughter to schedule your baking day! If you have questions please contact Jenny Poff at jenny@presqueisledesigns.com or Kathy Roach at kathyroach66@gmail.com.
