$153,160 GIFT MOVES OLP AHEAD

As the annual Erie Catholic Schools Week neared an end, students, faculty, and staff of  Our Lady of Peace School celebrated Mass on Thursday, January 30, 2014, with profound gratitude for the late Mr. Frank Amoroso, an Our Lady of Peace Church parishioner of many years. Upon the New Year, Mr. Amoroso's attorney executed his wish to present a donation of $153,160.82 to Our Lady of Peace School.

With the guidance of Fr. Ted, Our Lady of Peace Church Pastor, Mary Beth Ek, Principal, and John Plavcan, school Computer Technician, a decision was made that technology would be the best investment for these funds and a three year plan was developed. The schools' two computer labs will be completely equipped with state-of-the art technology and software, and the teachers will receive new computers and software as well. Their forward thinking technology department is researching the most current technology with which to equip the school.

The news was presented by Fr. Ted and Miss Ek at the weekly faculty and staff meeting Wednesday January 8th. The heartfelt emotion of the elated faculty and staff is a testament to the significance of this gift. One teacher could be overheard stating, "God really does answer our prayers."

Execution of the three year plan is underway, and the school plans to make purchases by March.

Parking Lot

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Over the last week I have received phone calls and emails regarding our dismissal time and feel that it is necessary to remind you about our crusade to keep our children safe.

If you are picking up your child(ren) from school at the end of the day, you must park your car in a parking place and then walk to the coned area outside the main entrance of the school and pick your child(ren) up within that area. The children are not permitted outside of the coned area without an adult to accompany them. Please make sure that the children remain with you until safely in your car.

Please be especially cautious if you exit the parking lot via Pacific Avenue, as cars travel in many different directions, we need to be patient and careful.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Miss Mary Beth Ek

Caring Crusaders

The Safe and Caring Schools theme for February is "Teaming Up for Success."

Cooperation is the ability to work well with others in order to get things done. Children need to learn early on that cooperation is a valuable lifelong skill. We need to model and teach accountability, being a team player, responsibility and effective communication so they learn that these are important aspects of getting along.

Students will

  • Learn the importance of cooperation
  • Practice leadership and teamwork skills
  • Learn and practice communicating effectively
OLP MOVES to Raise Money for the American Heart Association (AHA)

OLP students are going to be Hooping (basketball and hula hoops) and Jumping (jumping rope) to raise money for the American Heart Association during the week of Valentines' Day in their physical education classes.

Students are asking family and friends to sponsor them in their effort to help fight heart disease. Some are doing this in honor or memory of loved ones. We will have a Heart Chain of names for those who students wish to honor/remember in the gym. Hearts are free; just send in names of those you would like to include.

Students can set there own goals as to how much they wish to raise and the AHA does provide thank-you gifts for the various money levels that students collect. There are online opportunities for donating and AHA can link request to email or social networks (Facebook, etc.) to simplify collecting. It can all be done online.

Jesus Christ Superstar

The eighth grade class performance of Jesus Christ Superstar is April 16, 2014, at 1:30p.m. in the OLP Church. This is a tradition for the eighth grade class here at OLP and one the students look forward to.

Have you been looking for your black attire? All eighth graders need to have a roomy black turtleneck, plain black pants, and black socks for the performance.  It is easier to find them now than in April.
