Caring Tree - Ready and waiting

We are blessed to be in a Catholic school and to share our catholic values, beliefs and gifts. This Christmas season we want to reach out to members of the OLP School and sponsor a Caring Tree for our own families.

The Caring Tree has been placed in the main lobby of the school and will be up through December 9, 2013. The tree is decorated with Doves which have the items that are needed by our families. Please take one of the Doves and purchase and return the wrapped items to Miss Ek's office by December 13, 2013, with the tag attached to the items.

If you have questions regarding purchasing gifts, please contact Michelle Bruschi email psu22michelle@aol.com or via cell phone 814-323-1779.

Book Fair

The Book Fair will continue to be open today, Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m. You may also shop online at Scholastic.com/fair and purchase books using a credit card from November 18-30, 2013. All books will be delivered to the school for pickup.

We will also have wish lists available from our teachers in case you would like to purchase a gift for their classroom.

Cash, credit cards and checks made payable to Our Lady of Peace are accepted as payment. Please remember to add 6% sales tax to your order.

Thank you for your time and for purchasing books from our Scholastic Book Fair. It is the only means of raising revenue for the purchase of books for the school library and we truly appreciate your support.

Any questions, please email me at bhill@olpcrusaders.org.

Grades 5 & 6 ~ Retreat
The students and teachers in 5th & 6th grade held their retreat on Friday, November 22, 2013.  The day began with prayer in the gym, followed by a craft and activities.

After lunch the students spent the afternoon at the Second Harvest Food Bank.  They labeled and stacked jars of food to be distributed to the needy.  The students also collected $140.00 that was donated to the food bank.  This is equivalent to $2380.00 worth of food.

"This hands on experience has made us aware of the number of people in our community in need of basic food items.  It also made us more appreciative of what we have."  Jared Franc, 6th grade student

Caring Crusaders

The Safe and Caring Schools theme for December is "Respect Yourself and Others."

Belonging to a community means getting along with others and knowing what others expect of you. It is important for our children to understand that as active participants of our school community they help create a safe and caring community.

Students will

  • learn specific ways to be responsible members of our school community
  • practice using manners to show respect
Daffin's Candy Payments

It would be greatly appreciated if all candy money could be turned into the school office no later than Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Please make sure all checks are made payable to Our Lady of Peace School and that your envelope is labeled with your child's name and homeroom grade.

Box Tops
Are you shopping online this Christmas season?  Start at btfe.com and earn cash for OLP!  Click here for more information.

Thank you to all our Box Tops clippers, room parents and teachers for supporting our Box Tops Program.  We collected over 7700 Box Tops during the first 2 months of the school year!  We combined those with what we collected at the end of last year and shipped them off to Box Tops for Education.  We are expecting a check for over $1,300 to help fund FSA projects like classroom parties, technology,  fieldtrips and graduation festivities.

Keep them coming and don't forget to ask neighbors, relatives and friends to save them for you.  The holidays are a great time to collect Box Tops!

Look for more information on how you can earn eBoxTops for OLP in the Tuesday Folder.

Here are the classrooms that earned a dress down day for collecting the most Box Tops last month:

KOC

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

The Knights of Columbus Council of Our Lady of Peace will hold their next monthly "Pancake Breakfast" on Sunday, Dec. 1st, in the OLP Cafeteria from 8:00 - 11:00.

Menu includes

Pancakes, French Toast, Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns, Sausage, Coffee/Tea/Juice

Adults: $6.75, children: $3.00, under 5: free

Join us for the "Best Breakfast Deal" in town, and support your KOC organization. Proceeds from these breakfasts are used to support worthwhile parish (Pavilion), diocesan, and community projects.

Be sure to bring the kids to this special breakfast, since "Santa and Mrs. Claus" will also be there. Feel free to bring a camera, or we can take a picture for a nominal fee.

Blood pressures will also be taken by a nurse in the cafeteria during the breakfast.

Additionally, the Knights will have "Crooked Crosses" and "Keep Christ in Christmas" cards to sell at our December Breakfast. The crosses are purposely imperfect. Each cross is unique and different, just to remind us how unique, individual and beautiful we all are in God's eyes.

These crosses will make beautiful and meaningful Christmas gifts for family and friends. Prices range from $15 - $30.
