P.L.A.Y. Basketball League

Signups

Yes,  you are reading this right, P.L.A.Y. "Parochial League at the Y".

OLP and most other Erie schools in the diocese have made the decision to participate in a new basketball league run through the YMCA.  OLP's participation in this league will replace that of the CLAY league.

OLP families with boys and girls in grades 1-4 are invited to participate in this new league. We will be using the same rules as the previous CLAY league, focusing on player development.  Grades 1-2 will play on an 8 ft. hoop and be co-ed.  Grades 3-4 will play on a 10 ft. hoop and have separate teams boys and girls. This is a great opportunity for students to play and compete together with their classmates.

Games will be played each Saturday beginning January 4th and conclude March 8th (8 wks reg season, 2 wks playoffs).  All games will be played at the Downtown YMCA, with the hope to have the last games played on a university or professional court (we'll keep you posted).  Game schedules will be distributed by Dec. 20th.  Practices will begin as soon as we have teams and coaches.

Sign-ups for teams and volunteer coaches will be held later in October in the OLP Cafeteria and the cost is $50 per player.  Our team rosters have to be submitted by November 1st.  This is not an OLP athletic sponsored sport so we rely heavily on volunteer coaches. We cannot have teams with you.  The coaches' meeting will be held November 9th.

Please reference the link for information and signups for PLAY basketball.  This program is for OLP school students and parishioners in grades 1-4.  Looking for volunteer coaches and gym time!  Form/payment can be returned to the school office or signup in person on Saturday 10/26/2013.  Form/payment is due by Monday 10/28/2013.  Questions please contact Kurt Spence at

kurtspence@hotmail.com.

OLP 7th & 8th Grade Youth Group
Service Opportunity
There is a service opportunity for Youth Group students this Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 11:00-2:00 at Rolling Meadows, 3304 Zuck Road. The Erie Lions Club will be having a "Blind Bowlers" tournament and they are in need of 7 volunteer "pin spotters". What this means is that after the participant bowls, the spotter tells him or her what pins are left standing, as the participants cannot see them because of visual impairment. This should be a fun opportunity to help out and meet some interesting people from several surrounding states. This will count as 1 service requirement for youth group for this year. Please see Mrs. Ehrman to sign up. Thank you!

Halloween Party
Youth group participants, get ready for our first activity of the year! It's sure to be a super fun Halloween party! Since things worked out so well at Camp Notre Dame last year, we've decided to book it again. The party will be on Wednesday, October 30th, 2013, from 6:00pm-9:00pm. I'm pleased to announce that we are able to offer this event free of charge...WOW!!! However, we do ask that each child please bring one bag of candy to donate "treats for our troops."

Also, I am in need of around 8 parent volunteers to chaperone. If you can help out, please call or email Brenda Barto at 823-5670 or chuckybrenda@verizon.net. Please open and print the attached flyer and registration form. This form MUST be completed and turned into Trevor Barto, 8B, by Friday, October 25th; NO EXCEPTIONS! I suggest that you save this registration form on your computer with completed information. That way when this comes up again for a different event (and it will several times), you won't have to dig out your child's health insurance information again because it will be conveniently saved already.

So come on out October 30th for some great Halloween fun! Hope to see many of you there!

Questions? Email Brenda Barto at chuckybrenda@verizon.net , or call  823-5670. Thank you!

Girl Scouts
KINDERGARTEN DAISIES AND 2ND GRADE BROWNIES:

Mark your calendars for our next meeting - Saturday, October 19th, from 9:00am-11:00am in the school cafeteria.

Please remember to complete your Star assignment. If you have misplaced your sheet, please simply draw a large star on a piece of paper. Your assignment was to pick one of the laws that make up the Girl Scout Promise - honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, responsible for what I say or do, respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, or make the world a better place. You were to write in the middle of the star which law you and your family live on a daily basis. As a family, you are to put each member of your family in one of the "star arms" and tell what you do to live that law. If you have more than 5 people in your family, you can creative and add more star arms or make smaller stars around the paper. Then use your imagination and color/glitter/snaz up your star anyway you like it. Have fun with this!

We will also meet the following Saturday, October 26th from 9am-11:00am. Can't wait to see you on the 19th! Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either Mrs. Murnock (882-1017), Mrs. Roach (490-4240) or Mrs. Tatarko (244-2996).
