Edinboro Summer Business Academy
Young leaders about to complete the 8th, 9th or 10th grades who are interested in pursuing a career in business are being sought for nomination for the Xavier and Tina Williams Summer Business Academy at Edinboro University.

The Academy, sponsored by the Edinboro University School of Business through the generosity of Xavier and Tina Williams, will be held June 16-20 on the Edinboro University campus.  The university will provide scholarships to cover all costs for each participant, including housing on campus during the Academy.  The opportunity is valued at $895 per student, based on comparable programs.

The Academy was developed to introduce young men and women to the field of business.  Participating students will engage in problem-solving exercises, tour businesses, learn about economics and business plans, build leadership and teamwork skills, and meet the School of Business faculty and regional business leaders in settings comparable to professional networking events. They'll also be given training in financial planning focused on preparing for college and building for the future.

"Edinboro University's School of Business has experienced an increase in enrollment based on the investment in its high-quality faculty and programs," said Dr. Scott Miller, Acting Dean of the School of Business. "We would like to bring this quality to the high school students in the region through our Summer Business Academy."

Nominees who have shown interest in business and promise in their high school curriculum are encouraged to apply. While having had business courses in high school is appropriate, it is not required.

Thirty participants will be chosen for the inaugural Summer Business Academy. Prompt action to nominate a student or for a student to apply is encouraged, as applications must be received by May 4.

Distinguished Edinboro University alumnus Xavier Williams and his wife, Tina, are enthusiastic about the opportunity to help provide this exposure to business and leadership training to young people. A Senior Vice President with AT&T, Xavier Williams has built a highly successful career in business on the foundation of his Business Administration degree from Edinboro.

"We are very pleased to participate in an endeavor that will provide young people a chance to invest in themselves today that will pay dividends for them in the long term," Xavier Williams said.

For more information, interested students, parents, teachers, or counselors should contact Ms. Kerri Watson in the Dean's office of the School of Business at (814) 732-2460 or at watsonk@edinboro.edu.
