execHappy New Year from the Executive Director

Dear Friends of JW House,

Happy New Year! (Though this message seems a little belated because we are already in February!) All of us at JW House look forward to a great 2013. It is a big year for us as it marks our 5th year of keeping families together during a medical crisis! We hope you will join us at upcoming events, including our Easter Egg Hunt in March and our Fleurs de Printemps fundraiser in May. Stay tuned in the coming months for more information about these events.

2012 was a great year for JW House. Our roster of over 50 volunteers donated almost 8,000 hours! We launched our Young Professionals Advisory Council (YPAC) that organizes fundraising and outreach events for JW House.

Additionally, our "Dinner is Served Program" is thriving, and people can sign up online to cook a meal for the house. Volunteering to cook a dinner for families at JW House is perfect for groups and families, and our guests are so appreciative of the home-cooked meals.

We would not have been able to serve the 1500+ people facing a medical crisis in 2012 without the continued support of YOU. All of us at JW House thank you for your generosity, and we look forward to a wonderful 2013!

Warmly,

Jill Mitsch

BellCity of Saratoga Youth Commission Volunteers for JW House

On Saturday January 12, members of the Saratoga Youth Commission volunteered for a work day at JW House. The Saratoga Youth Commission is comprised of eleven middle and high school students appointed by the Saratoga City Council for two-year terms. As leaders of their community, the commissioners role is to serve as liaison between the young citizens of Saratoga and the City Council. In addition, commissioners plan, promote and participate in community service, educational and fun activities for the City's youth.

Members of the commission rolled up their sleeves and cleaned the grout of JW House's tile. It was a big job, and JW House is thankful for their hard work.

"The Commission had a wonderful time volunteering at the JW House," said Youth Commission Staff Advisor Adam Henig. "Although none of them were familiar with the JW House prior to this visit, it's apparent they'll be back soon."
