Make Your Bus Donation Today!

THANK you to those who have already made their donations/pledges for the North & South bus for September & October. This is greatly appreciated!

Bus donations help offset transportation cost to maintain high quality curriculum and instruction in classrooms for all students. High community participation in busing donations financially supports current busing and makes busing expansion viable to better serve the TCGIS community.
If you have not had a chance to make your pledge, please take a moment to do so.  Here is the link with the instructions.

Please click here to read an important update for Novemeber. Thank you for your continued support!
Picture Day Next Thursday!

Get ready to smile--picture day is next Thursday, October 8! All students should have received order forms which can be done online or via form. Students should either hand their order forms to their homeroom teachers, or hold on to them until October 8. Students and/or teachers will hand the order forms directly to the photographers.
Countdown to Herbstfest!

Join us on October 8 from 11am-2pm for Herbstfest! There will be German food,  bouncy houses, and a fun time had by all. Please contact Tina Haarbusch at  with any questions. We can't wait to see you there!

Metro Transit Meeting
Monday, October 5, 6:30pm

Did you know the #83 Metro Transit bus runs along Lexington Avenue and is an excellent option for transportation services for families along that route? TCGIS is having a meeting with families currently utilizing this service and invite all other interested families to join. We are discussing bus stop times and ways to find good solutions to make riding the #83 a great experience. Meeting is at TCGIS, Room 99.

Blumenkranz at the MN RenFest

Blumenkranz Senior kicks off the season with a performance at the MN Renaissance Festival on October 3 & 4 as a part of their Oktoberfest celebration! Is there a better way to celebrate Oktoberfest on the day of German Unity than outside with historical-looking scenery? Join us for dancing at the Pavilion stage on October 3 & 4!
Success at the Black Forest Inn!

This past week our fifth graders challenged Oktoberfest visitors at Black Forest Inn in a "Is Your German Better Than A Fifth Grader's?" competition, all while raising money for our school! 20% of the food sales went straight to the Amity Intern program at TCGIS! We would like to thank Black Forest Inn Restaurant for this great opportunity and our 5th graders & teachers, families and German interns for their support. Click photo to enlarge.
We Need Your Cereal Boxes!

Please start sa
ving and bringing in your cereal boxes and round oatmeal boxes! Frau Lenburg will be needing them in October to make lanterns with the K-3rd graders for the annual Martinstag celebration. TCGIS celebrates Martinstag this year on Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Landmark Center in St. Paul. It is a wonderful celebration of a traditional German holiday with songs, a play, lanterns, good food and a live horse! Look for more information in the coming weeks.

Empty boxes can be given to Frau Lenburg in the morning at drop-off or sent to the classroom with your student.
The TCGIS Special Education Advisory Committee Needs You!

SEAC leadership will be chosen at our next meeting, October 19. If you have any interest serving as the Chair, Secretary or Parent-at-Large member of the committee, please submit an application to SEAC@tcgis.org by Friday, October 16.

If you have any questions or comments, please send them to SEAC@tcgis.org.
Teachers! We are still looking for one classroom teacher to join us. If you are interested, please contact Susan Nixon or Beki Cook at SEAC@tcgis.org.
Did You Know?

Box Tops for education will donate up to $20,000 to our school each year! All that is required from us is that we collect the Box Top labels on packages we already buy and send them to school. Easy peasy!

Every one of us has the opportunity to make a difference for our school by just asking family, friends and coworkers to save their Box Tops instead of throwing them in the garbage. Please, help save the Box Tops!
PTO
PTO Announcement

The PTO's largest fundraiser of the year, the TCGIS PTO Community Auction, will be November 4-11, 2015. The submission sites for Great Gatherings,  Teacher Treasures & Admin Adventures, and  Personal Pieces are now open to register your donations. Submission deadline is October 23. For more details and some background on the auction as well as volunteer opportunities see the PTO Community Auction website.

The focus of this year's auction is on community building through Great Gatherings, Teacher Treasures, Admin Adventures, and Personal Pieces. Great Gatherings are group events hosted by TCGIS families. Hosts donate their time and resources to put on the events for other TCGIS adults, kids, or families. Teacher Treasures and Admin Adventures are events hosted by TCGIS teachers and staff, mostly for TCGIS students. Personal Pieces are donations from the school community, such as handmade items, creations from your kitchen, or a gift certificate from a TCGIS parent's business. Wondering how you can help strengthen our community while supporting our students through this event?
  1. Organize an event or donate an item.
  2. Bid on items and attend a Great Gathering, Teacher Treasure, or Admin Adventure.
  3. Volunteer.
This is a great opportunity to support our students while trying something new and getting to know our community better. Questions? Please contact Astrid Knott Johnson and Becky Deimel (TCGISAuction@gmail.com).

GAI Announcements

Tuesday, October 13, 7pm - Free and open to the public
Explore the history, language, and devilish spirit of one of German Literature's most iconic characters.  Classical Actors Ensemble (CAE) Artistic Director, Joseph Papke, along with actors and designers, will host an interactive lecture and showcase of scenes from CAE's current production of
Doctor Faustus. Free and open to the public, this evening will get you into the Halloween spirit (without making a deal with the devil.)

Due to the request for more programming in German, we have developed a new series for those who want to come speak, listen to, and engage with others auf Deutsch. Attendees will pick up their boxed lunch and join others in the dining room for socializing and networking before the short program at noon. While the event timing is great for students and working professionals, all German speakers are welcome to attend.
