Severe Weather Awareness Week
April 12-18, 2015

Der Fr�hling ist endlich da! Spring is finally here! With Spring comes the possibility of severe weather. Next week it is national severe weather awareness week and there will be nationwide alarms to familiarize everyone with what a severe weather alert sounds like. Happy Spring everyone! 
Last Call for After School Activities Registration!

Registration for the last session of after school activities was extended at the beginning of the week. Registration is now due tomorrow! Please note that the following classes have been cancelled: Thursday tutoring (it is still scheduled for Wednesdays), M�dels: Munter mit Mut, Drum and Beats, Folk Music & Simple Songs, Streetball/Teamsports, and Ritter Training. Additionally, the German Desserts class is full.

Capstone Benefit Event on Sunday!
April 12 & 26, 2015
 
Join us for the Capstone Benefit Event at 2:30pm this Sunday, April 12, 2015 in the Aula. There will be Kaffee, Kuchen, and entertainment from the school and community. All proceeds help support the 8th grade Capstone Exchange Program.

On April 26, our very own eighth graders head to Germany for two weeks! Come support our community and have a
great time doing it! Click here to RSVP today! Please bring canned goods for the food drive! We will be collecting them at this event. 
Be a Part of the Finance Committee!

The Finance Committee is looking for more members. This is a great opportunity to learn about the financial workings of the school and to give back as well. The Committee usually meets the third Tuesday of the month. Contact Ted Johnson with any questions.

Upcoming 6th Grade Trip to the Biohaus!

From April 27-30 the sixth graders will be up in Bemidji, MN, at Waldsee, the German village at Concordia Language Villages. The Biohaus is one of the first passive houses in the USA!  Students will be doing science experiments in this great building, and also have fun with sports and outdoor activities. They are getting very excited!

Help Us Reach Our Goal!

The food drive deadline has been extended until April 28! Please bring in the "super six" items: cereal, peanut butter, canned tuna, canned fruits and vegetables, canned stews and soup, and pasta/rice/beans. Our goal is to collect 500 pounds of food, and so far we only have 146. We need your help and support to reach this goal. Anything helps
! We will be collecting canned goods at the Capstone Benefit Event on April 12! 
Special Education Advisory Committee Meeting

Current 4th graders will have an opportunity to try out instruments at a "petting zoo" during school on a date to be set in May.Students in grades 5-7 are welcome by appointment only.

Get Your Dance on at the Middle School Spring Dance!
Friday, April 17, 3:30-5:30pm

Celebrate Spring at the middle school spring dance! The dance will be held in the Aula on Friday, April 17 from 3:30-5:30pm. This dance is open to all 5-8 graders. Bring your best moves--see you on the dance floor!
German Events in the Community 
Register for the International Film Festival!

Bring your family or go with some classmates to this year's International Film Festival hosted by the Minneapolis St. Paul Film Society between April 9 and April 25. There are over 200 films, including many appropriate for K-12 students.


This year there are three German films: Belle and Sebestian, Fiddlesticks, Lola and the Pea. If there are any questions or inquiries for more information, please direct them to Mary Anne Quiroz. Please click here to find the International Film Festival website. 
Join Us for Waldsee Fest!
April 26, 2015 - 1:30-4:30pm

Come learn more about Waldsee, the German immersion summer camp, by experiencing Waldsee! Get a peek into what village life is like by exploring what we do. Try your German skills, your dancing skills, and your Fussball skills! Or sit and enjoy delicious pretzels, pastries, and coffee from the GAI.

Adult Language Class: G100 starts April 29      

Wednesdays 6:30pm-9:00pm, 18 weeks (runs 4/29-8/26)            

Want to speak auf Deutsch with your child at home? This class is perfect for beginners and those new to German. Students progress from learning the basics of German pronunciation and comprehension to building grammar and conversation skills related to everyday topics such as the family, shopping, daily routine, and life in Germany. Beginning Germanic Genealogy

Saturday, April 11, 11am - Free and open to the public

Come for an introduction on best practices in researching your Germanic family heritage. Germanic Genealogy expert Lois H. Edwards will lead this interactive, 'how-to' workshop in identifying your German immigrant ancestor through name, birth date, religion, and birthplace. This workshop will go over the "best case scenario" of finding a name and location in Germany and locating microfilmed records as well as the various "worst" cases that researchers often encounter.
