Grand School Opening - Save the Date
Saturday, October 4 at TCGIS

Dear Families & Community,
Please save the date! On Saturday, October 4 we'll celebrate the official opening of the new building and the families and community who supported the school and the construction project over the last year. There will be a red ribbon cutting, refreshments, school tours, and more! Further information will follow with the event coming closer.

New Website
Accessible via smartphone!

Over the summer we transferred our website to a new content management system, Joomla. The new website has a responsive design and an improved navigation so that all sections are accessible via smartphone. For a short transition period the old website will be still accessible from the new website. Just click on "Old Site" on the navigation menu.

Enjoy the new website!

Facebook Update

As many of you know, TCGIS currently has two Facebook appearances: 1) The official TCGIS Facebook page and 2) the private Facebook profile. To solve any potential confusion about the two Facebook appearances, and to protect the privacy of our Facebook friends, TCGIS will only use the official TCGIS Facebook page from now on and will be shutting down the second Facebook profile. To do so we will de-friend everyone who is currently a friend of TCGIS.

We will continue to post on our official Facebook page. Facebook will be mainly used for non-critical info, promotion of social events, fun facts, articles about the school and immersion education, community building etc.

For those who are not on Facebook, no worries -- Facebook will not be our primary tool for official communications. If we post any official communication on Facebook, you can be sure that it has already been blasted by email, posted in the Elternbrief, or put on the website.

We hope that this clarifies TCGIS' use of Facebook.

For those of you who are on Facebook, please like the TCGIS Facebook page!

7th & 8th Graders - Meet a Nobel Prize Winner!

All 7th and 8th grade students have the opportunity to apply for one day at the 50th Nobel Price Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College this October. Frau Lauenstein will be taking eligible students to Gustavus Adolphus on October 7th for the first day of the conference at no expense to the students or school. To apply, students will write a 1/2 page essay explaining why they would like to attend the Nobel Conference and what they expect to take away from it. Once students have been accepted they will committ to a week of preparatory work during recess to learn about the speakers and their scientific work.

New Interns Introduction

Stefanie

Hey everyone! My name is Stefanie and I'm 24 years old. I'm a University student and want to become a teacher of English and Spanish. I live in the lovely Black Forest in the South of Germany and just spent half a year in Spain. My passion are horses and horse riding. Besides that, I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking or riding my bike and I love cooking. I'm excited to be part of the staff and am looking forward to spend a whole school year at TCGIS!

Martin:

My name is Martin Turzynski, I am 25 years old and I was born and raised in Hamburg; still I have a Polish family background and Polish ancestors. Both, my mother and my father are Polish and came to live in Germany in the early 1980's, that is why I am confronted with both, Polish and German culture and language. In 2005/2006 I spent a year abroad in Michigan, USA and totally enjoyed exploring the American culture, especially in terms of family and school life. I have just finished my studies in Music and English this summer and after my internship at TCGIS I intend to become a high school teacher. In my free time I do a lot of music. I really love playing the piano, but I also have been playing the clarinet and the trombone for several years - most recently I started playing the saxophone. So music is a huge part of my life! Besides playing music and listening to it I am interested in reading literature and watching plays in the theater or acting on stage. But most importantly I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and just having a fun time together. I am so glad to have the opportunity to be and work with you and I am excited to get to know you all!

GAI Announcement
