New Interns Introduction

Dominik:

Hi kids, hello parents, my name is Dominik Leo and I am an intern for the first half of the school year 2014/15. I will be working in class from the 27th of August until the 23rd of January. Currently, I study English and History in my hometown Saarbruecken in the sixth semester. Saarbruecken is near France in the south-west of Germany. English and History have always been my two favorite subjects and since I like to work with children, I decided to become a teacher. In the course of my studies, I did three internships and I have not regretted my decision yet. I still live at home with my parents, Klaus (49), and Silke (48), and my little sister Anna, who recently turned 18. My father is a civil servant and my mother is a home maker. My sister started an apprenticeship as a medical assistant two years ago. In my free time I like to play soccer, listen to music, or just go out with friends. I also enjoy reading books, especially fantasy novels. If I need a break from those activities I like to watch TV series. This internship is a great possibility to reduce culturally based prejudices and to exchange teaching methods. Apart from this, it certainly will help to improve my English, as well as add new perspectives to the German classes at the TCGIS.

Julia:

Hello, my name is Julia Rentschler and I have just finished University! I have studied German and Sport at the University of Karlsruhe to become a secondary teacher. Originally, I am from Vaihingen an der Enz, which is a little town close to Stuttgart. In my free time I play soccer, but I also like to go swimming or do any other kind of sports. Besides that, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, playing with my 3-year-old nephew Paul, traveling, and meeting new people. I am exiting to join TCGIS and to get to know the USA with its people, culture and way of life. I am looking forward to my time in Minnesota!

Looking for Gardening Volunteers

We're looking for ten or more volunteers with a green thumb who would like to help planting new garden areas. After the landscaper have planted the trees and have put a final grade on the beds at the beginning of August, Jeff Wilson and the other volunteers will be responsible for planting all of the beds, putting in vinyl edger, and putting down mulch for the new plants.

The gardening action is planned for Saturday, August 16th (the back up date is August 23 in case of bad weather or landscaping delays).

Volunteers should bring:

  • Wheelbarrow
  • Shovels
  • Scoop shovels (to scoop mulch with)
  • Plastic Leaf rakes (to level mulch with)
  • Hoses for watering
  • Water bottles (for drinking) and some kind of snack.
We'll provide refreshments.

Please sign up here if you'd like to help with the gardens.

For any questions, please contact Isabel Vollenweider.

Update - Looking for Moving Volunteers!

We're looking for volunteers with muscle power who would like to help us with the move into the new annex building. It is a great exercise opportunity and we would save a lot of money if we don't have to hire a moving company. We'll provide refreshments so that you won't dehydrate!

The moving action is planned for the following days & times:

  1. Wednesday, August 13, 9am-1pm / 1pm-4pm
  2. Saturday, August 16, 10am-1pm / 1pm-4pm
Please sign up here if you're interested in helping out with the move. Thank you!
