Welcome Lauren Kalish

Guten Tag! My name is Lauren Kalish and I am so excited to be a part of the TCGIS administrative office staff. I am originally from Syracuse, NY, but now call Minnesota my home. I am a recent St. Olaf graduate (Um Ya Ya!) with a bachelors degree in Sociology and Anthropology. For almost ten years I have been affiliated with Concordia Language Villages as a camper, counselor, and business manager. After living in Northfield, MN for four years, I am ready to start exploring St. Paul and soak up everything--including the cold winters!

I look forward to meeting students, parents, and community members and am so excited for this new chapter of life!

Communication Survey

Dear Families,

We would greatly appreciate your feedback to help us build a strong communication culture within our community. The survey contains questions about our four communications channels: 1) Direct email blasts, 2) Elternbrief, 3) Website presence, and 4) Facebook. The responses you provide on the survey will be used to develop a strategy to improve the effectiveness in communication. We value your opinions and hope you will participate. Click here for the survey.

Thank you very much for your time and support. You are always welcome to directly email Isabel at [email protected] as well.

Update - Looking for Moving Volunteers!

We're looking for volunteers with muscle power who would like to help us with the move into the new annex building. It is a great exercise opportunity and we would save a lot of money if we don't have to hire a moving company. We'll provide refreshments so that you won't dehydrate!

The moving action is planned for the following days & times:

  1. Saturday, August 9th, 10am-1pm / 1pm-4pm
  2. Wednesday, August 13, 9am-1pm / 1pm-4pm
  3. Saturday, August 16, 10am-1pm / 1pm-4pm

Please sign up here if you're interested in helping out with the move. Thank you!

New Interns Introduction

Marvin:
My name is Marvin Gerner, I live in Hanover, Germany, and study English and History at Leibniz University. In the future, I want to be a teacher at a secondary school. Since 2011 I work as a private tutor for the subjects German, English, and Maths. My hobbies are playing the drums and guitar, and I also like going to the movies, playing soccer, and meeting friends. My favourite things are: Pizza and Lasagne, books by Paul Auster, and movies like "Into the Wild" and "The Lord of the Rings". I am very much looking forward to being an intern at TCGIS!

Matea:

My name is Matea Mazic and I'm studying English, Education, and Philosophy at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. My family is originally from Croatia. I grew up bilingually so I can relate to what the students at TCGIS are experiencing. Two of my favorite things are music and literature. I love going to concerts, reading, and browsing bookshops and libraries. I also enjoy travelling, cooking and baking, going out with friends, and outdoor activities. I am very excited to join TCGIS this fall!

Looking for 8th and 4th Grade Student Mentors!

For the new school year, we're looking for interested 8th grade and 4th grade students for leadership opportunities at TCGIS. We'll be starting a new mentorship program, which will be focused on serving younger students who are transitioning into either elementary or middle school. The goal of the program is to build a collaborate culture between our more senior student and transitional students. Student mentors will receive initial and ongoing training on leadership. The 8th and 4th grade mentors will be working with the 5th and Kindergarden classes respectively to help them achieve a smooth transition by developing collaborate and supportive relationships.

Please share this information with your son or daughter.  If they are interested, please sent an email to Jeff Horton with their grade, full first and last name.
