Thank You!

Twin Cities German Immersion School wants to give special thanks to all of the staff who have contributed so much to our school in the past years and wish them the very best of luck in their new adventures:

Susanne Grimm: After 8 years of exceptional service in second grade at TCGIS, Susanne is moving to California to be with her children and grandchildren. She will be teaching first grade at a German immersion school in Menlo Park. It is hard for us to imagine TCGIS without her and we will miss her very much.

Missy Morrissey: In 3 years as the middle school math teacher and math leader for the K-8 program, Missy has been the cornerstone of tremendous improvements in mathematical learning and helped many teachers expand expertise in math instruction. We wish her the best of luck in her math leadership position with Minneapolis Public Schools.

Denise Stegmann: Denise has given 6 years of extremely high quality special services to TCGIS students and made their academic and socio-emotional learning safe and successful. She has been an outstanding team contributor to ensuring all students feel welcomed and have a rich experience at TCGIS. She is taking a leave of absence as she expects her first child this September. We wish her and her family health and happiness in the coming months and look forward to having her back!

Susan Kocher: Susan has been involved with TCGIS for many, many years, offering science lessons, technology education and long term substitute support among many other contributions. We thank her for her work and wish her the best in her future adventures.

Stefanie Michals: Although with us for only 1 year, Stefanie made kindergarten A students feel deeply welcomed to TCGIS and their learning environment fantastic, loving and enriching. Stephanie had her first child, Liesel, in March and we look forward to seeing her return to the TCGIS community, if not as a teacher, then certainly as a parent when Liesel is 5-years-old!

Stefanie Berres: As an integral part of the front office staff for 8 years, Stefanie greatly developed the information technology systems at TCGIS, including PowerSchool, website management and MDE state reporting. We wish Stefanie luck at her new job with Infinite Campus and know she will be a great success!

Blaine Strobe: In the past 2 years, Blaine has been a great team contributor in everything from lunch service to nurse assistant to library support. We congratulate her on her new position with the University of Minnesota's Anderson Library.

Hannah Kinney: Has been a paraprofessional serving TCGIS students in the classroom and at lunch and recess with the sensitivity, calm and caring that are a true hallmark of the TCGIS culture. We wish her luck as she leaves us to pursue a Speech Pathology degree at Marquette University in Milwaukee and would love to see her back at TCGIS some day!

Kirsten Wisniewski: For her first year at TCGIS, Kirsten took on the lead playground supervision, always having a smile no matter what the weather (and some long wollen underwear!) Kirsten also served students wonderfully as a paraprofessional in the classroom. She has the great fortune of going to Austria on a Fulbright program and we know she will thrive there! Viel Gluck Kirsten!

Again, we wish all of these fine individuals wonderful futures. The school will be announcing new staff to the TCGIS community later in the summer as the new school year approaches.

Danke schn from everyone at TCGIS!!!

Soccer Madness

Today, TCGIS & friends were watching the USA-Germany match at Glockenspiel. As always with soccer, it was very emotional! Both teams played well and gave their very best despite the humid conditions in Recife. In the 55th minute, Thomas Mueller scored the match-winning goal for Germany. Although Germany won the match, both teams advanced into the round of 16.

Yippee, the madness continues!

We're Still Looking for 1 Host Family and 2 Back Up Families for our Fall '14 Interns!

The Amity interns are well educated and dedicated young people who not only increase the German language exposure at the school but also bring freshness, fun, and an intercultural atmosphere to our community. Please consider hosting an intern for the upcoming fall semester. We still need one fall host-family and two back-up families.

If you're interested in hosting an Amity intern, please fill out the online form here. This is only an expression of interest at this time, and not an absolute commitment or promise. For more information about our Amity program and hosting an intern, please go to the TCGIS website or contact Isabel Vollenweider.

"Living with our intern has been a wonderful experience for us. It has been so nice for us to have a friendly, upbeat adult in the house, for chatting, for getting updated about my old home country, and of course, to help with things like homework or watching the kids while we go grocery shopping. " says a current host-family.

New Kinderstube Opening Hours / MPLS Carpooling Opportunity

As of September 2014, Kinderstube (German Immersion Preschool) opening hours at the St. Paul and Minneapolis location will change from 8:00am to 7:30am. With the earlier opening hours it will be possible for families to drop off first the younger sibling at Kinderstube and then the older sibling at TCGIS.

The Minneapolis Kinderstube location, Mayflower Church, 106 East Diamond Lake Road, would also be a great meeting point for Minneapolis families interested in carpooling. There is a huge parking lot in front of the church that would work very well for a carpooling set up. Please sign up here if you're interested in a Mayflower Church carpooling opportunity.

TCGIS Summer Art Challenge!

If you are looking for ways to keep your artistic side busy over the summer, then Frau Lenburg has just the thing for you! A different set of art challenges will be published each month in the Elternbrief, and your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to complete one, many, or all of the challenges listed. For more information and the Art Challenges for June, please click here.

For more information, please contact Amy Lenburg.

Looking for Male & Female Muscle Power!

We're looking for volunteers with muscle power who would like to help us with the move into the new annex building. It is a great exercise opportunity and we would save a lot of money if we don't have to hire a moving company. We'll provide refreshments so that you won't dehydrate! The moving action is planned for the following two weeks:
  1. Week of July 28-August 1
  2. Week of August 4-8
Please sign up here if you're interested in helping out with the move. Thank you!
