Scholastic Book Fair
We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead better lives.
Our Scholastic Book Fair theme - Story Laboratory: Reading Gives You Super Power! - is part of an incredible energy source for reading that brings to school a wonderful selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books kids want to read. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they'll get.
Can't make it to the fair? Please click the ONLINE fair to start shopping today!!

Mpls-St. Paul International Film Festival
St. Anthony Mail Theatre This Saturday, 12:00 pm
Last year, TCGIS was a sponsor of a German kids' film at the Mpls-St.Paul International FIlm Festival. The trilogy of"Vorstadtkrokodile" has been a big hit with our students and last year we had a huge turnout at the 2 film showings. This weekend is the chance to see the 3rd and final film and we are inviting you to join us at the St. Anthony Main Theatre on Sunday, April 14th at 12 noon. This is the only viewing during the Fest, and the opportunity to see German films for kids in a theater is very rare, so we do hope that you can make it! Check out these two German Language Children's Films:
Saturday 4/14 12:00 pm
Saturday 4/27 11:00 am Sunday 4/28 12:00 pm And, by all means, do take a look at the over 200 films from 60+ countries that will show during the Fest April 11-28th. Catalogs will also be available at our front desk.

Concert Band Tomorrow
Instrument Petting Zoo April 12, 1pm-2pm
Interested in joining the TCGIS Concert Band?
An instrument "petting zoo" is being planned for Friday, April 12, where 4th graders can see and play different instruments, sponsored by Schmitt Music. In conjunction with this, we can schedule an afterschool session with a Schmitt Music representative where parents can speak one on one about renting an instrument. (You do not have to rent or buy from them. There may be other stores near you that are more convenient, but Schmitt Music gives us the most options) Current 5th through 7th graders are also invited by appointment only; please contact Krista to arrange a time. Krista will be following up with an email to 4th grade parents over the weekend. If you are interested in your child participating in band next year, please fill out this survey. Any questions regarding the concert band program can be directed to Krista Johnson. (612) 209-3396 monk2miles@comcast.net

Library Fundraising Book Sale May 17th! As you may have heard, we are moving locations over the summer and the library is eager to only move the best and the brightest of our library to our great new location. Over the years, many families have donated materials to the library and we've had a large number of donations ALREADY this year. In fact, we have so many books that we don't need anymore donations to make our book sale a great success. But we do need YOU to come out and support the library and the school by purchasing some of our books. We have lots of German language books for both kids and adults ready to find their new homes. We are also looking for volunteers to help with the sale, so if books are your thing and you want to help out, contact Blaine Strobe at bstrobe@tcgis.org for more information. |
A
Capstone Benefit Event
In March the first graduating class of TCGIS went to Germany for a two week Capstone Experience Trip. The Capstone provided students with the opportunity to integrate and apply what they've learned during their time at TCGIS and experience Germany first hand. The trip is the culmination of a TCGIS education and is planned for all 8th grade classes at TCGIS. We are continuing our efforts to raise money for teacher expenses and needs-based scholarships, so come and join TCGIS teachers, students and their families for an afternoon of Kaffee und Kuchen, music, dance, and more. Performers from the entire TCGIS community will come together to entertain you and your family at this 2nd Annual Capstone Benefit Event.
The program includes * A presentation by 8th graders about their experiences on the first Capstone trip to Germany with a special tribute to Marcy Zachmeier-Ruh, whose vision laid the foundations for this trip. *Music and dance performances by TCGIS students, parents, and TCGIS celebrities such as Hunter Goetzman, Scot Stevenson, Margaret Sims, and Valentin Solakhau *German story time with Frau Grimm *Children's games * German movie "Hände weg von Mississippi" based on a book by Cornelia Funke**
*Cakes, coffee, kid's drinks and more!
Admission $5 per person suggested donation, kids are free! All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Capstone Fund. We hope to see you all there!
**This program was made possible by the Goethe-Institut Chicago
