Twin Cities German Immersion School mourns the passing of Marcy Zachmeier-Ruh - Former Director of Curriculum, teacher and co-founder of our school.

Marcy was a wonderful educator, coworker, friend and mentor with a great passion for teaching languages and a real gift and understanding for developing curriculum. Through the years, her endless research, commitment and kind spirit have always been a true inspiration to her students and the people that worked with her. She was a courageous woman who has guided and shaped the lives of many at TCGIS. Even after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, she never lost her can-do attitude and her sense of humor. The love and dedication she has poured into this community will forever be remembered.

In honor of her lifetime achievements Twin Cities German Immersion School has established "The Marcy Zachmeier-Ruh Award" for excellence in the promotion of German language and culture, which will be given each year to a graduating 8th grade student.

The Germanic American Institute in conjunction with TCGIS is planning to host an event in late January or early February for families and the greater community to remember and celebrate Marcy's life. Details will be announced soon.

Information on the memorial service can be found here: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/startribune/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=161483825#

If you've never tried the program, check them out at www.shopwithscrip.com. It's easy to set up an account, and TCGIS will get a percentage of every card you purchase, at no cost to you! Just use the school's enrollment code when you sign up to ensure we get credit for your order:4CA2AE9714L14

Place your order online anytime between now and 12/10, but make sure to drop a check off at the front desk (made out to TCGIS) by end of school on Monday, December 10th. Orders will be ready for pickup at the front desk by December 17th.

Whether you need groceries, gas, or gifts, there's a card available for all! Ask your family & friends if they'd like to order, and add them on to your family's order - the more the merrier (& the more money we raise for TCGIS).

Parent Volunteer for After School Opportunity Wanted

The second session of after school activities will be starting soon. TCGIS has an opportunity to partner with Episcopal Church Home to provide a volunteer experience for interested students. We need your help to make this opportunity possible. Episcopal Church Home is a home for the elderly and is located on the corner of Fairview and University. Students would spend an hour after school one day a week providing activities and games for the residents. The parent volunteer would be responsible for supervising the students during the activity and walking the students to and from Episcopal Church Home. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Kris Hennelly at rjhkmm@mac.com or Molly Kalda at mkalda@tcgis.org. Thank you!

Minnesota Boychoir Winter Concert

The Minnesota Boychoir cordially invites the TCGIS community to the upcoming winter concerts "
A World... A way."  Two of our own second grade gentlemen, Chris and Charlie, will be performing for the first time with the Boychoir!  Concerts are Saturday, December 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis and Sunday, January 6 at 1:00 p.m. at the Landmark Center in Saint Paul.  There is no charge for admission but donations will be received.  For more details visit
After School Instructors Needed!
Session Two Begins January 14th!

The second session of after school activities will be starting soon. If you are interested in teaching a class, please fill out the attached form and hand it into the office. If you have any questions or would like ideas for classes, contact Molly at mkalda@tcgis.org.

St.Martin's Day Coat Collection

Inspired by the story of St. Martin the students of 1A had a conversation about giving. We started collecting gently used children's jackets, snow pants, hats and gloves. Before delivering  them to Joseph's Coat we invite the wider TCGIS community to join us in this coat drive. Drop off is at 1A classroom. We will deliver our donations by December 11.

Thank you for your generosity,

Start planning your Maskenball Great Gathering today!

Have a special talent? Like to socialize?
Help make this year's Maskenball auction the most successful ever by offering your own Great Gathering!

Not sure what a Great Gathering is? It's an event hosted by one or more members of the TCGIS community, to be bid on during the online auction leading up to Maskenball, the PTO's biggest fundraiser of the year. Past events have been as varied as group camping trips, fireworks viewing parties, outdoor movie nights, progressive dinners, crafting sessions, theme dinners, and more. The possibilities are endless!

Dream up your own great idea for a Great Gathering -- it's a fantastic way to get to know other members of the TCGIS community while also helping the PTO raise precious funds to support our school!

Click here to submit your idea.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon

The PTO is coordinating a Staff Appreciation Luncheon for the Teachers, Interns and all Staff of TCGIS for Friday, December 21st, from 10:45 AM-1:00 PM. We are looking for generous parents to help pull off this much-anticipated & appreciated yearly tradition! The Doodle poll has slots to sign up to help with set-up, clean-up, washing dishes, and of course--bringing FOOD: vegetarian & regular main dishes (hot dish/casseroles, etc.) appetizers, salads, veggies, fruit, rolls or bread, bottles or cans of sparkling water and soda, and lots of desserts!

LABELED food items and serving utensils should be dropped off on Friday morning (Dec. 21st) by 10:40 AM, and picked up AFTER SCHOOL ON FRIDAY (that same day) so that nothing goes missing over break.
Food will be served in the 2nd floor Teacher's Lounge. Collect your items either from the teacher's lounge, upstairs refrigerator, or the school entryway at dismissal.  Anything plastic & unlabeled will be considered disposable.

If you wish to bring a special item that doesn't fit into one of the categories just make a comment at the bottom of the doodle poll listing which item you are bringing. Please also make a comment if you need your item to be near an outlet to plug in a hot plate/crock pot, etc; or if you want to clarify what/how much of something you are bringing. If possible, label what your dish is--especially if it is Vegetarian--and maybe also write who made it. Teachers often ask who brought their favorite dish. I will try to keep an eye on the doodle totals & mark categories FULL as necessary. If you have questions, feel free to e-mail me at nicole_grenz@hotmail.com

You may sign up for any of these items at the Doodle poll here: http://www.doodle.com/yg3i69hb6nfi7vi7

THANK YOU in advance for your generous donation to our hard-working teachers and staff!
