It is hard to believe that May is here!  As you know, I am expecting my second child at the end of this month.  I anticipate taking leave as early as May 22nd.  In my absence, Assistant Principal Erin Maguire will be Acting Principal, assuming my daily responsibilities, and Education Team Supervisor, John Harney, will be assisting her with some of the Assistant Principal duties.  Please contact Ms. Maguire in my absence emaguire@sch.ci.lexington.ma.us or at 781-861-2510.  I look forward to returning to Bridge in October.

We are currently working on placement for the 2015/2016 school year.  Thank you to those who submitted parent input forms.  Please know that this is not a requirement and that the current classroom teachers know the students well.  The placement process is multi faceted, is done with great care, and many people are involved.  The classroom teachers take the primary role of placement while input from specialists is also valued.  The principal and assistant principal oversee the process and make decisions as needed.  As I mentioned in the placement letter, we work to create balanced classrooms across each grade level.  Below you will find the teacher names for each grade level as they currently stand today. (If anything changes over the summer parents will be notified.)  If additional sections are needed, based on increased enrollment over the summer, staff will be hired accordingly.  You will notice that some teachers have moved grade levels and that Ms. Hinton and Ms. Childs will no longer be with us.  We wish Ms. Hinton good luck in her move to Chicago and Ms. Childs a restful retirement.  More specific information regarding new hires will be forthcoming in my summer letter including our new speech and language pathologist (Ms. Diane Spengler is retiring in June), the addition of a new social worker/guidance counselor, and an increase in nursing support.

I wanted to let you know that Ms. Sharon Kingsbury will be on medical leave from Bridge for approximately 6 weeks.  If you child receives reading support from her, he/she will continue with this general education service through the instruction by Ms. Lisa Vino.  Ms. Vino comes to us wtih years of experience as a certified literacy specialist and elementary school teacher.  We are thrilled to have her join us while Ms. Kingsbury is out.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

On May 8th, the Bridge School will host a PTA Coffee from 8:45am-10:00am for all interested parties to learn about the new traffic patterns that will be implemented for the start of the 2015/2016 school year.  This plan was determined based on a traffic study conducted by Environmental Partners as well as input from the school administration, staff, parents, Safe Routes to School members, the fire and police departments, School Committee members, and others.  We are hopeful that this plan will help eliminate many of the issues we face on a daily basis.  It is a short term solution with the hope that a long term solution will be determined in the future.

Please continue to check the Bridge School website and contact your child's classroom teacher as many activities take place in May and June to celebrate the end of a successful school year.

I wish you the best over the next two months, and hope that you and your family have a relaxing summer vacation.  I look forward to seeing you upon my return in October.

Spring Big Backyard
Spring Big Backyard Trainings 5/7-5/8

Spring is (finally!) here and it's time for Big Backyard!  Big Backyard is a parent coordinated Flowers program where parent volunteers lead small groups of children, from their child's class, on three seasonal curriculum related walks in the Fall, Winter and Spring.  These walks take place outside during the school day in areas around Bridge.  Most of the walks last 30-45 minutes.  The theme of each walk is coordinated with the classroom science curriculum for each grade and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.  Big Backyard walks are great fun and provide a way for parents to support the classroom teachers and also interact with their own children. No previous experience is necessary, and the training will teach you everything you need to know.  First time parents are always welcome.  Please consider volunteering to be a walk leader!

The training for the Spring walks will be in May.
Kindergarten - Thursday, May 7 9:00 am - 9:50 am
Grade 1 - Thursday, May 7 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Grade 2 - Thursday, May 7 11:00 am - 11:40 am
Grade 3 - Friday, May 8 9:00 am - 10:00 am

The training will begin in the lobby by the school office.   Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the training start so that we can begin promptly.  Please dress appropriately for going outside and walking in the woods, as we will cover the route of the walk no matter what the weather is.

For more information, please contact the Big Backyard Coordinators Cindy Darcy, Constanza Lisdero, or Andrew McKee, or go to our BBY webpage.
