Bruce Beerbower --
Master Front Line Interpreter

Honored at National Association for Interpretation Conference
CSC Lead Naturalist, Bruce Beerbower, has been named one of two Master Front Line Interpreters by the National Association for Interpretation (NAI).

At the NAI national conference Bruce was described as, "absolutely one of the best natural science interpreter/educators in NAI."

Bruce began his career almost a half century ago. After earning his degrees and a variety of jobs north and south, he settled in at Catawba Science Center in 1980. In the time since, he has done just about everything, becoming a beloved institution within this beloved institution. Bruce was a member of both the Association of Interpretive Naturalists (AIN) and the Western Interpreters Association (WIA) and helped with the merger into NAI. Whenever possible, he has attended our workshops and presented sessions. This spring, the Sunny Southeast Region recognized his lifetime of devotion by honoring him as its Outstanding Interpreter. He has influenced the lives and careers of hundreds, probably thousands, of people. Three examples of his "graduates" are a local science teacher who won the National Environmental Education award, a senior administrator at the World Wildlife Fund, and a veterinarian at the South Carolina Aquarium.

National Association for Interpretation is dedicated to advancing the profession of heritage interpretation, currently serving about 5,000 members in the United States, Canada, and over thirty other nations. Individual members include those who work at parks, museums, nature centers, zoos, botanical gardens, aquariums, historical and cultural sites, commercial tour companies, and theme parks.

Corning Optical Communications Volunteers

Paint Main Hallway & Classroom and clean Naturalist Center
Volunteers from the Young Executives Group from Corning Optical Communications spend two days helping to spruce up CSC, led by their mentor, Jim Rideout (Senior Vice President Strategy and Business Development for Corning Optical Communications and President of CSC).

The volunteers painted the remaining part of the Main Hallway's walls and ceiling, painted the North Classroom (how much nicer in CSC blue rather than the old bright yellow!), and gave the Naturalist Center a much needed top to bottom cleaning.

We thank them for their very generous gift of their time and talents.
