October 2015
CURIOUS SCIENTISTS CLUB

This series of engaging, educational programs to inspire young minds is open to all children ages 3-5 and their caregivers. Classes will be held at CSC on the first Tuesday, October through June, from 10:00 until 11:00 am.

Preschoolers get their hands dirty and their minds piqued by exploring simple science concepts through play, crafts and demonstrations. This year, they will explore metamorphosis, space, engineering and more!

Accompanying adults are free. Pre-payment and registration required to reserve space, which is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To register or for more information, contact CSC (828) 322-8169 or [email protected]

Use sensors and servos to make those decisions come into the real world, then take your robot home to keep and reprogram with your new skills! While studying the basics of robotics, we will cover; ultrasonic sensors, computer programming, Arduino, ArduBlock, servos, basic circuits and breadboard prototyping. This is our entry level Arduino course, so if you are new to, or want to try a new kind of robotics, this is where to start! Participants will gain the most from the experience if they attend all sessions.

Calling all Boy Scouts --
Wolves, Bears and Webelos

Scout Camps begin in January 2016!

Join Catawba Science Center and Piedmont Council of Boy Scouts of America for a night to remember at Catawba Science Center.

These events are filled with fun for the boys and the accompanying adults. Hands-on classes help fulfill Scout activity requirements. Enjoy snacks and a late night movie, too!

This year, participants have the option to attend "Evening Only" or "Overnight." Overnighters get to "camp-in" throughout CSC, see an early morning planetarium show, and visit exhibitions.

Also new this year for overnighters - a warm breakfast from a popular chain restaurant.

Two date options for each age group:
Webelos - January 15th/16th or January 29th/30th
Bears - February 5th/6th or February 12th/13th
Wolves - February 19th/20th or February 26th/27th

Details and registration forms will be available on CSC's website beginning mid-October.

Thank you, CSC members, for helping us SPREAD THE WORD throughout the Catawba Valley!

Legacy Society

The Legacy Society was created in 1998 to recognize those individuals who have given $5,000 or more in a present-day or future gift to one of CSC's endowments.

In 2012 Catawba Science Center held its first annual gathering of society members in order to keep them abreast of how their gifts have provided support of science education in the Hickory Metro region.

These members are also recognized on a bronze plaque in the entrance hall at Catawba Science Center.
