Star Party with Catawba Astronomy Club

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

7:00 p.m.

Sherrills Ford Library

Catawba Science Center (CSC) in collaboration with Catawba Valley Astronomy Club (CVAC) will be hosting a Star Party at Sherrills Ford Library on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:00 PM.

Amateur astronomers have a great knack for discovering new celestial bodies. Now it's your turn to take a glimpse into the night sky and gain knowledge of what can be located using a blink comparator. CVAC will instruct visitors about this technique to find asteroids and comets.

Young stargazers can create their own take home constellations. Plus, they can test their ability to save the Earth from a rubble pile asteroid collision using a Great Balls of Fire! exhibition component at the library.

Programming for this event is sponsored by the United Arts Council of Catawba County.

Refreshments will be provided and don't forget to register for giveaways too - participants have a chance to win a Galileoscope.

Sherrills Ford Library is located at 8456 Sherrills Ford Road, Sherrills Ford, NC 28673

Laser Holidays

Laser Holidays are back at CSC!

Are you looking for a break from the holiday hustle and bustle? Then stop by Catawba Science Center's Millholland Planetarium for our seasonal Laser Holiday show.

This year, CSC is blessed with some wonderful volunteers, that make this year's show even more special.

Dr. Tom Lesser, a former presenter at the Hayden Planetarium in Boston, assisted by CSC's Trish Little, has been helping CSC update its projection equipment in the Millholland Planetarium. The lasers are much brighter and the images are crisp and clear. We are very excited to present the popular characters in the Laser Holiday programs. This is a must-see show for the kids as they get in the mood for Christmas.
