Fire in the Sky
Fire In the Sky Poster

After the World Premiere at the Science After Dark event on November 13th, Catawba Science Center will feature Fire in the Sky by Tom Lesser.

Did you know that about once a year a space rock, or meteoroid, about 15 to 30 feet across burns up in the Earth's upper atmosphere?

That once perhaps every 500,000 years, an object about half a mile across strikes the Earth? If an asteroid a mile across struck the Earth at the Catawba Science Center in Hickory, NC it would cause a crater 25 miles wide and over half a mile deep? And, that most likely you would not survive even 250 miles away unless you were protected by mountains?

These are just some of the fascinating facts presented in "Fire in the Sky".

"Fire in the Sky" is the first public planetarium show produced specifically for the Millholland Planetarium and was donated to the museum.

Many CSC memberships will expire at the end of November, so be on the look out for CSC Membership Renewal materials in your mail and email.
