Training Term
Overreached: an acute state of fatigue and hence diminished performance resulting from a brief period of excessive training relative to what you normally perform. Normally, performance will recover after just a few days of rest or reduced training.

The idea of periodized training is to provide an increasing stress on the body to illicit a response and then provide adequate rest to give ourselves time to repair and adapt. There will be times throughout the season that the average athlete is overreaching, such as after a large training block to prepare for a target event before tapering or possibly from the event itself (think the Triple Bypass or Leadville 100). As long as these are properly planned for they can be important parts of a training program. If not accounted for, an athlete can become overtrained, a situation in which they are chronically overreaching and where recovery takes a long period of time.

Greetings!

It's hard to believe that we're already through the majority of the summer cycling season here in Colorado. It seems like just yesterday we were giving tips about indoor riding during the winter. Now we're battling 90+ degree days and it seems like a little snow may not be such a bad thing right now. The time has come to look back on how your season has been up to this point, refocus and sprint for the finish line. There are still gains to be made and, like always, the team at OES is here to help you. Be it a mid-season LT Test to track gains and reset training zones, building a training plan to get you through your last "A" event or just a consult to review your data so far and give you some direction, we've got the tools to optimize your training.

Training
The Art of Recovery

In the search for gains in performance, most recreational athletes put the greatest emphasis on the training portion of the equation, and rightfully so. After all, if we don't train we can't expect to get any faster. But as coaches, we know that training is only a small part of the bigger picture. Your training can easily be derailed by poor sleep, stress at work or home and poor diet. Getting a better handle on these areas can help you to see greater gains...READ FULL ARTICLE
