Dear Friends,
I am watching children across the street from Gandhi House play ball as I type this letter to you. Moments ago, an older child blocked a toddler from running out into the road after his ball. Watching this simple interaction, some things feel clear: spring is here. We need each other. Children everywhere are the same. They want safety, play, and care.
In this present moment, the peace of the absolute and the sometimes agonizing relative world touch. All of this is happening in this moment, impossibly: Thinking of Freddie Gray's family, friends and community in Baltimore, seeing images of enormous suffering in Nepal, hearing of fires kicking up the quiet lethal radiation in Chernobyl and watching the children on South Plymouth Avenue play.
This weekend is Mother's Day, intended by its post WWI originators to focus on disarmament and the end of violence of every kind. Let's remember the mothers of Baltimore and of Nepal and strengthen our shared commitment to nonviolence as a focus for the day.
We hope many of you can join us for our first fundraising dinner and celebration on Sunday, May 17th at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $50. We've got 34 spots left to fill; please help us sell out.
This comes with love from everyone here,
Kit Miller
