Dear People,

Have you seen the movie Selma yet? I loved it. One of the powerful themes it explores is the awareness that King had about threats to his life. Both King and Gandhi knew that their lives were at risk if they persisted in their work, and they did it anyway. How would you describe what they must have valued, even more than their own lives, by making that choice?
And if you had a chance to speak with either of them today, one on one, don't you think they would urge all of us to carry on their work?
Because I believe that both cared far more for "love in action" than for statues and parades, I hope you will join us in celebrating the Season for Nonviolence again this year. This 64 day campaign, January 30 through April 4, marks the dates that Gandhi and King, respectively, were assassinated.
Regardless of where you live, be sure to do something, however small. Every word and every action moves us toward a less violent world, or away from one.
This comes with love from all of us,
Kit Miller, Director

Luminaries for Dr. King
Last week on MLK day Gandhi staff and volunteers set up and lit over 100 candles lining Plymouth Ave. The candles amidst a cold dark night served as a poignant reminder of the hope that King brings in such a bleak time.
Here are some photos, and a video put together by Gandhi intern Tina Goldswer.

"The price of democracy is awareness."-Arnold Mindell This is a pivotal point in our civilization. But what if it turned out that the anger, rage, conflict and oppositional forces driving our crises contained within them the energy, creativity and will to solve all the problems? What if we already had, each of us and all of us, those resources - the capacities necessary to make humanity a blessing to the Earth in the midst of, and made from, the seeming curse of humanity's destructive power on Earth, its resources, its environment, and all living beings. Join us for a workshop where we explore these questions.

Discovering Gandhi's Humanity
by Shannon Richmond
The first half of this month I received the gift of being sponsored to go to India on the Gandhi Legacy Tour, led by Arun and Tushar Gandhi, Mohandas Gandhi's grandson and great-grandson, respectively. We visited places Gandhi lived and worked as well as organizations working in his legacy today throughout India. (You can find out more about the Legacy Tour and consider going in 2015,
here)
Before going to India, Gandhi was larger than life to me, a hero I had learned about since middle school, largely from my mother's passion for nonviolence and social justice....
