Devotion

This is the word that defines the"tas" of OLRM, a full team of committed, loyal, loving, dedicated, enthusiastic, and Christian women who take their work with responsibility. They know in their hands they hold the future of many girls, who before coming to OLRM were homeless, hopeless and with no opportunities. To recognize this hard endeavor, the group from the Cathedral of St. Luke's, Orlando, Florida honored them with an elegant and deluxe lunch to say 'THANK YOU TIAS!'

Girl Scout Makes ESL Kit For OLRM

Kelly Telljohann is a seventeen-year-old Girl Scout from Troop 1405 and a member of the Charlotte Padrino. As part of her Gold Award Project (which is the equivalent to a Boy Scout Eagle Scout), created an English-as-a-second-language (ESL) Kit and Manual for the (OLR) missionaries to use, which includes vocabulary lists, a variety of fun learning materials, game instructions, puzzles, bingo games, flash cards and activity ideas for all age levels at the home. Kelly decided that creating a fun ESL kit for the missionaries to use would encourage the girls to learn English in a fun way and would give the girls better opportunities later in life. Both the Kit and the ESL Manual will be available for use in Mayra's office. Missionaries interested in teaching ESL to the girls will have access to it. OLRM thanks Kelly for such hard work and this wonderful contribution!!

Tom's Tennis Shoes

Tom's Tennis Shoes are the fashion in Honduras and for third time in the last two years, the girls from Our Little Roses were blessed with the donation of Tom's shoes through the organization of Feed the Children. There were sizes for each one of the girls, who thanked the representatives of Feed the Children for such a wonderful donation.

"Tea with the Queen"

As London celebrated its amazing year with the 2012 Olympics and Queen Elizabeth II's 60 years on the throne, the girls at OLR learned about this royal city. The week's theme for the Charlotte Padrinos' visit was London and the Olympics. They arranged teams and played creative and hilarious games throughout the week.

London was introduced via "Royalty" magazine, coloring pages, bunting making and "Tea with the Queen" plus several other events.  Each day, a name was drawn and that girl was Princess for a Day. She hosted two teas with the Queen. Eight girls were ladies-in-waiting attending high tea with their princess, while the Padrinos portrayed Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth II. This intimate group sat at table set with real china that traveled from London to Charlotte, Charlotte to San Pedro Sula. That, plus tea, milk and sugar, homemade shortbread, chocolate roses, cupcakes, curried chicken and cucumber with cream cheese sandwiches completed the table.

The Princesses dressed themselves like royalty that brought tears to the Padrinos' eyes. The girls took the position seriously as they acknowledged their ladies-in-waiting and greeted royalty with the proper curtsy, greeting and farewell. Every one of the girls had lovely manners and learned a few new ones that will serve them well when they have their next tea. The older girls kept an eye out for the little ones and assisted as needed. It was so sweet to see such caring and concern for napkins in the lap, passing more sugar, and making sure everyone got a chocolate rose. 'Thank you Charlotte Padrinos for bringing London to OLRM.'

Sponsor A Child

There are many ways to support Our Little Roses, but one of the most valuable is to sponsor a girl. This gives the home an assurance of a steady source of support for a girl for several years -- hopefully until she becomes an adult. Sponsorships are $720 per year, which may seem like a lot, but paid quarterly ($180) or monthly ($60) is quite manageable.

If you sponsor a girl, you will receive a certificate and a photo. You are encouraged to correspond with the girl you sponsor, and she will reply.

Another possibility is to accept responsibility for tuition for one of the girls at Holy Family Bilingual School or at university.
