Range USA of Memphis - October 2013 Newsletter

Man, have we had fun at Range USA over the last month! The three RUZAT Zombie Hunting Training Sessions went very well! We talked to a lot of participants about first-aid, disaster preparedness, and setting up a bug-out bag. We got to shoot a lot of different types of firearms and even got some practice throwing tactical tomahawks! We will definitely plan on continuing these training sessions for Zombie Night 6 next year. And, we ready have plans to expand on the training sessions.

Of course, all of these training sessions were in preparation for the RUZAT Ultimate Zombie Hunter that is scheduled for Monday, 14th at 6:00pm! Everyone is encouraged to sign up for the competition; you aren't required to have attended any of the earlier training sessions to compete!

Chef Rick did another outstanding job putting on the 3rd Annual Wild Game Dinner at 1776! The various types of wild game were all prepared perfectly and everyone got to taste some food they don't usually get to eat. Everyone went home full and ready for next year's Wild Game Dinner.

And then, Zombie Night 5 is right around the corner! On Friday and Saturday (25th & 26th) from 6:00pm-9:00pm both nights, it happens! Come out with friends or come out to make some friends. Bring your children - it is very child friendly. There is nothing overly gory, nothing jumps out at you, and you don't need any firearms experience whatsoever. A Range USA instructor is right beside you the entire time. Bring your camera and take photos with the RUZAT Team and our captured zombie! Last year, my 8 year old and 6 year old boys went through it and loved it! They can't wait to go through the "zombie zone" again this year.

I really encourage all of you to take part in the activities Range USA has to offer. They are always a lot of fun and educational. From classes to competitions. From wild game dinners to free Shelby County Sheriff's Department seminars. From Member's Hour to Date Nights. From meetings to Shotgun/.223 Night. There is such a great group of people, both customers and employees, that make Range USA a very special place. Come in, get plugged in, make some great friends and enjoy your Range USA family!

RUZAT - Ultimate Zombie Hunter Competition

Monday, October 14th beginning at 6:00pm!

This RUZAT Competition will crown the Ultimate RUZAT Zombie Hunter. It will be a cumulative assessment of all the skills and knowledge acquired in Levels 1-3.

Anyone may enter the RUZAT Competition regardless of participation in any of the Training Sessions. However, the RUZAT Competition will focus on the knowledge and skills you acquire in Sessions 1-3, so your attendance to all Training Sessions will improve your chances to become the Ultimate Zombie Hunter! Participants may use their own firearms as long as Range USA has that caliber available and the caliber is allowed. There is no age restriction, as long as a parent is with any minor child.

Entrance into the RUZAT Competition is FREE to those who attend ALL 3 Training Sessions!

If no Training Sessions were attended, the entrance fee into the RUZAT Competition is $50.00.

If only one Training Session was attended, the RUZAT Competition entrance fee is $40.00.

If only two Training Sessions were attended, the RUZAT Competition entrance fee is $30.00.

SCSO Seminar Series

Range USA is hosting a series of FREE workshops developed by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Crime Prevention. The presentations are led by Shelby County officers who have decades of experience and who have been trained to educate the public about how to avoid becoming a victim. These workshops are informative and interactive, giving you a rare opportunity to speak with seasoned law enforcement officers about how best to protect yourself and your family. "Member Only Hour" Announcement

ATTENTION RANGE USA MEMBERS: Announcing our "Member Only Hour".

Range USA Members (Recruit, Minute Man, Patriot, Founding Father and Lifetime Members) now have the opportunity to reserve lanes on Saturday mornings for one hour, 9am - 10am. (Over time, we may expand the Member Only Hour times) You can reserve your lane weeks in advance. If you need more than one lane, no problem, the member will receive their lane free and will pay regular rates for additional lanes (no discounts on lanes). When making reservations please include number of guests, type of target, and caliber of ammo (if needed). Breakfast will be available for you to purchase, just let us know how many will be eating, (breakfast will be served beginning at 8:30am), there will be FREE Coffee. When you arrive, simply check-in. You will know in advance which lane is yours. On your lane you'll find your target ready and ammo present. During this hour members will be able to fire .223 (our frangible ammo) and shotguns (no more waiting for Tuesday and Saturday evenings). To make your reservation please contact Dana Brown via her email: Dana.Brown@rangeusa.com. This is a "first to reserve" program, by order of email, i.e., if 15 emails are received for the 14 lanes available, the first 14 by date and time will be given the reservations. You will be able to go on a wait list; if a lane becomes available you will be contacted. Members can reserve lanes every other weekend; this will allow more members to have the opportunity to reserve a lane. Space is limited so don't wait!

Customer Service Representative

Range USA is currently accepting resumes and applications for Full-Time/Part-Time Sales/Customer Service positions for both, Memphis and Jackson locations. If you have previously submitted a resume/application and were not contacted, please re-submit your information. We are also hiring for management positions, but all new management must work their way up through the ranks. A fast-track program is available for those who qualify and are interested in a management position.

The job description includes, but is not limited to - customer service, cleaning, tracking and maintaining inventory, tracking sales, and basically providing outstanding service, with high quality products in a clean, comfortable environment. During slow periods, employees will be expected to perform light office work, marketing, and merchandising for Range USA. No experience is necessary. We will show you everything you will need to know.

Applicants need to be customer oriented, detail oriented, trustworthy, dependable, personable, and a quick learner with an obsession for cleanliness. Applicants also need to be able to follow directions to the letter and be able to work on their own as well as be able to work quickly in a very fast paced environment. The hours are flexible but you should be able to work at least three days a week. You do not need to be a firearms expert to work with us, you just need an outstanding attitude, a desire to learn, and the ability to always learn something new.

Community Outreach Coordinator

Range USA is currently accepting resumes and applications for a new, part-time position. This new position will be responsible for reaching new customers and customer bases in West Tennessee. This position may also be responsible for various marketing, merchandising projects and trade/community shows. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with great time management skills, organized, out-going and personable. You must be comfortable speaking to new people from all backgrounds. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about Range USA, but not necessarily about firearms (you don't need to be a firearms expert). This position could eventually perform duties in Jackson, TN as well. The hours will be flexible, but will primarily be weekday hours with occasional evenings and weekends.

Mississippi Enhanced Permit

Chip Holland, Range USA Training Director, is certified for the Mississippi Enhanced Permit. And, Paul Brehm, Range USA Instructor, was recently certified to teach it, too.

The Mississippi gun permit does not require any training, because of this, there are very many restrictions on where a permit holder can legally carry.

Mississippi residents can apply for an Enhanced Permit once they have completed required training, OR if they have a current MS permit, they can take the training and get an endorsement on their current permit. Sign up for any permit class Chip Holland is teaching to receive this permit certificate for MS. Either way, the Enhanced Permit allows the permit holder to carry legally in far more places in Mississippi.

With the REGULAR GUN PERMIT it is A CRIME to carry a gun into:

Any police, sheriff, or Highway Patrol station or any prison or jail;

Any courthouse;

Any polling place;

Any public park;

Any school, college, university;

Any school, college, or professional sporting event;

Any establishment that serves liquor as their primary business (bar);

Any church or other place of worship.

With the ENHANCED GUN PERMIT, all of the restrictions ARE REMOVED, except: polling places,

Police, Sheriffs, or Highway Patrol stations, prisons, and jails; and courtrooms where court is in session.

Date Night News

If you haven't made it to Range USA for a Date Night yet, you are missing out on a great time! For $50.00 you get a lane rental for two people, two boxes of ammunition, two targets, and two meals in our restaurant - 1776! It's cheap! It's fun! It's awesome! 1776 offers amazing home cooked lunches during the week! Comfort food at it's best! Be sure to check out the 1776 Facebook page for the weekly menu. There is also a lighter "tactical menu" offered every weekday for those of you who are watching what they eat. So, when you are wondering where to go for lunch, try 1776! You'll leave happy and full! And, for those of you who can't get by for lunch, there are also great home cooked dinner plates available!

Be sure to stop in 1776 during the Zombie Night 5 event and pick up a Zombie Pizza! That's right! 1776 will be doing pizzas for Zombie Night this year! After all, you'll work up an appetite hunting zombies - it's exhausting work!

Course Description:

This comprehensive multi-gun armorer certification course will prepare students to fully service the complete line of classic SIG SAUER pistols (P220, P226, P228, P229 and P239) while maintaining the factory warranty. This hands-on program focuses on the mechanical functioning, complete disassembly/reassembly, maintenance. troubleshooting, and field repair of these pistols. Instructors will guide students through each step while encouraging active participation to ensure maximum retention of the material covered. Law enforcement armorers will also gain the knowledge necessary to develop a maintenance and inspection program for their department. A three-year certification is awarded upon successful completion of written and practical exams.

Open to law enforcement, firearm dealers and civilians.

What is Inside the UN Arms Trade Treaty?

Article 2 of the treaty defines the scope of the treaty's prohibitions. The right to own, buy, sell, trade, or transfer all means of armed resistance, including handguns, is denied to civilians by this section of the Arms Trade Treaty.

Article 3 places the "ammunition/munitions fired, launched or delivered by the conventional arms covered under Article 2" within the scope of the treaty's prohibitions, as well.

Article 5 under the title of "General Implementation," mandates that all countries participating in the treaty "shall establish and maintain a national control system, including a national control list." This list should "apply the provisions of this Treaty to the broadest range of conventional arms." The federal government would be required under the provisions of Article 5(4) of this treaty to "provide its national control list to the Secretariat, which shall make it available to other States Parties."
