Article #10 in the Servant Leader Series at
League City United Methodist Church

Have you met Gary and Betty Raines?

The Raines Family joined League City UMC in 1967.  Gary is a retired electrical engineer and worked at NASA for 37 years.  Betty is a recently retired teaching and taught in CCISD from 1976 to 2014. Gary and Betty are active members of the Seekers Sunday School class.

Betty has served God as a Sunday School and VBS teacher and was part of the team that started Creative Corners Preschool Ministry here.   She has served on the library committee, Staff Parish Relations committee, Helping Hands ministry, and works in Food Truck ministry. Her favorite memory here is when her whole family joined the church.

One of the things Betty has especially enjoyed was serving as an officer in Methodist Women.  One year they adopted an immigrant family with 7 kids, helped them acclimate to the community, helped them learn English and found them a home.

Gary is heading up our 120th Anniversary planning team.  He has served God as our Communications team leader and managed our website since his retirement from NASA.   Gary has enjoyed welcoming each new pastor to LCUMC and always looks forward to learning from their fresh new perspective.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going."   John 14:  1-4 is a favorite verse.
