Article #2 in the Servant Leader Series at
League City United Methodist Church

Have you met John?

John joined League City United Methodist in 2009 and almost immediately began serving as an Office Angel.  If you call the church on Monday, Wednesday or Friday and someone with a very deep voice answers  that is probably him.   He answers dozens of Food Truck calls each week and patiently gives each caller directions and all the details.

He is semi-retired and drives the van for Family Promise of Clear Creek.  He says it is such a blessing to serve God through Family Promise and that watching those homeless kids adjust and adapt to their ever changing "home" situation is amazing.  He worked as safety manager at Shaw Global and at KBR and worked in area chemical plants for 25 years. He served on the Fourth of July Committee in Friendswood 25 years and with the Friendswood Volunteer Firefighters for 20 years.  He is a trained EMT and actually delivered a baby on the job!

John has served God in several ministries here at LCUMC.  Food Truck Ministry, Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Emmaus Group, and the Veterans Dinner are some of them.  He has also served as a Stephen Minister.  He is a Vietnam Veteran and the Wounded Warrior project is near to his heart.

A scripture that is very meaningful to him is
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself."
Matthew 22:37-39
