Article #1 in the Servant Leader Series at
League City United Methodist Church

Have you met Lee and Sylvia?

Lee and Sylvia joined the League City United Methodist Church in 1971.  They came as part of the merging of Kemah Methodist and LCUMC.  Sylvia joined Kemah Methodist in 1951.

They are "retired" but have operated Sylvia's Cozy Corner shop in Kemah for the past 25 years.  Sylvia retired after 27 years of teaching in the Clear Creek Independent School District.  Lee retired from Marathon where he worked as a pipefitter for many years.

The Streaters are active members of the Seekers Sunday School class and serve on Sunday for Coffee Fellowship.  Sylvia serves in the church office answering phones, writing letters to our home bound members, and organizing Coupons for our Troops.  She also serves Communion and is a Lay Reader.  Between the two Lee and Sylvia have served God in every ministry of the church.  SPR, Admin Council, Trustees, Finance, Sunday School, VBS and Lay Delegate to the Annual Convention to name a just few.  Sylvia especially enjoyed and was blessed by serving on the Commission on Education.

Some of the most memorable events for them at LCUMC include the Womanless Wedding when Lee served as the preacher and when  Sylvia was asked to direct the children's Christmas play the first year she was here.  She says going from 5 friendly beasts (at Kemah) to 40 friendly beasts was quite an experience.  She had directed the play at Kemah and when her new pastor asked to do the same play here she said yes.

Sylvia learned the hymn, "God Will Take Care of You" in Rainbow Girls.  When her home was destroyed by Hurricane Ike that wonderful song was in her heart and in her mind and sustained her through the very difficult time of clean up and rebuilding.
