From the Pastor. . .
Well hello!
We are about to start the month of March, and over the past few weeks, quite a bit has been going on at LCUMC along several fronts. Some things (like the new digital sign out front, repairing and painting the fascia on the FLC, and adding new gutters to the FLC) have been quite visible from a facilities point of view. With programs, we've seen a number of youth activities (the pancake dinner, the car smash fundraiser, the beach house retreat), special and ongoing studies (the women's Bible study, the angels Bible study, Methodism 101, confirmation, and Men at 10), and special events in worship (special speakers, Ash Wednesday, handbells).
Along other fronts, a number of other things have been going on, and I thought you'd like to know about some of them:
Lent & Easter:
- Take a look at the Lenten devotional study is available on our website (lcumc.org). A special thanks to Rev. Richard Prather for providing this for us.
- March 29, Palm Sunday, will be quite full. We are changing our schedule to allow for special activities at each of our services. The traditional services (8:30 and 11:00) will hold our Easter cantata, and Magnify will be at 9:45.
- April 2 is Maundy Thursday, and we will have a special communion service at 7:00PM.
- April 5, Easter Sunday, will be another crowded day with special musicians and four worship services - 6:30AM Sunrise, 8:30AM & 11:00AM Traditional, and 9:45AM Magnify.
120th Anniversary:
- Mark your calendars for September 20! LCUMC is 120 years-old this year, and we are celebrating with a special day of worship with a one combined service. Rev. Joe Fort is planning on being our speaker of the day!
Administrative:
- We paid our 2014 apportionments in full!
- Our various Building Fund accounts have been consolidated into one account with the Texas Methodist Foundation. This will help us manage our funds better as we look to our ultimate goal of relocating to the Calder Road property.
- The sale of 4.66 acres at the Calder Road property is still moving along quite well. The 90-day feasibility period is almost complete, and once the sale is closed, we should see right at $2,000,000 added to our building fund. This will put us well along the way to funding our new building!
That's quite a bit of stuff, and it's only a part of the picture of what is the life of an exceptionally active church working to glorify God and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let's keep on dreaming for Him!
Because of Jesus,
Joel

Youth Beach Retreat
This past Valentine's weekend our youth group had their winter beach retreat. Close to 40 youth and adults headed down to Surfside beach, where they stayed in a 12 room beach front home. The weather was spectacular!
Our retreat "Silver lining, every family has one" was focused finding the positives in our family, honoring our parents, getting along with siblings., and having a positive attitude.
We studied in Genesis how Joseph found the silver lining and loved his brothers despite how broken and dysfunctional they were. Believing God is bigger, God is good, and God is capable, will affect the very attitude we have about our family. And it will affect the climate we have around them. When we start believing in what is possible, people notice and respond.
Along with food and fun, we had midnight Worship and were blessed to have Brandon Williams, the worship leader at Central UMC, come and lead us in a time of music and prayer . We gathered on the beach around a bonfire, under a beautiful starry sky, with the ocean waves playing in the back ground. It was an awesome experience!
It was a marvelous weekend!
