Join Our Next Meeting 11/10/13!
Volunteer T-shirts, posters, bookmarks & more! 

We have two remaining Volunteer Outreach Team meetings before the FESTIVAL! Please come to one or both meetings. Meetings are an opportunity to get Festival materials, network with STEM professionals, and learn the latest Festival news.  We have some exciting new celebrities and events to share!

 

 
X-STEM School Ambassador Teams can get 1 additional T-shirt per attendee at the November meeting for a team member not present.   At the January meeting, all the T-shirts will be distributed first to the Volunteers in attendance, and then to the X-STEM Schools who still need T-shirts.  So come to both meetings!

X-STEM School Certification takes 5 simple steps:
  1. REGISTER by completing the X-STEM Registration Form.

  2. Select a Student X-STEM Coordinator and 5 X-STEM Delegates to form the X-STEM Ambassador Team
  3. Hold a meeting and determine STEM mission statement for the team and take a picture
  4. Become CERTIFIED after submitting mission statement and picture through this X-STEM Certification Form

KAVLI Video Contest 
Starts NOW!

 

The USA Science & Engineering Festival, in association with the Kavli Foundation, launched the  Science in Fiction video contest on November 1st!

 

Kavli Video Contest  

Students in grades 6-12 will investigate how science is portrayed in popular movies, TV shows and video games. Winners will be honored in a special festival EXPO Awards show in Washington, D.C. during the weekend of April 26-27, 2014. The contest officially opens for entries on Nov. 1, 2013 and closes Mar. 21, 2014. 

 

First prize is $2000 cash prize and a travel stipend to travel to Washington D.C. for the Expo. Second prize is $750 and the third prize is $500. The People's Choice Award prize is $250. Additional prizes include individual student licenses for Wolfram Mathematica Software.

Certified X-STEM Schools (listed on website) are eligible for EXPO exhibit spaces during the 2014 USA Science & Engineering Festival April 25-27, 2014. 

 

Normal exhibitor rates are $1,000 for a 10'X10' booth (including 1 table & 2 chairs), but our Certified X-STEM School Ambassador Teams are able to have an EXPO Booth on EXPO Weekend (and Sneak Peek Friday) for ONLY $150!  

 

To register your CERTIFIED X-STEM School for an exhibit space , use this form and list X-STEM School in organization/company name and select X-STEM School for the reduced rate.  Schools must be certified X-STEM Schools to get the reduced rate.

Community Outreach Initiatives

Festival Volunteers Lisa Matthews, Kerrin Bressant, and Latoya Chambers made a huge impact on students at the Society of Women Engineer's conference.  As part of the new Volunteer Outreach Team Community Initiatives program, Volunteers are solicited to work outreach booths in the community to share information about the Festival.  To participate in upcoming Volunteer Meetings and Community Outreach, check our Opportunities Page.
