President's Message

Spring! Longer days, warmer weather ... summer will be here

before we know it! Check the PTA calendar in this issue

and always on our PTA website at www.fremont-pta.org for the

many activities happening in the last months of the school year.

A lot went on at Fremont in March!

Tremendous thanks go to our SOS Committee - Kelley Poleynard,
Sarah Gomez, Krista Richardson, Jean Newkirk and Nellie Cooper -

for their extraordinary effort on the SOS Fund Drive.
Our Fremont community raised more than $50,000

to be used in funding the technology and science labs!
Thank you to everyone for your participation in the drive.

Thank you to Book Fair Chairs Roberta Jeannette and Kelly Sullivan
and the many helpers at the Spring Scholastic Book Fair.
It's always fun to see kids excited about books!

Big thanks to Karen Karpouzas for putting together
such a fun week of Screen Free activities!

Thank you to our Science Fair Chair, Sharon Urbano,
for a great event! Nearly 200 Fremont students submitted
creative, fun, inquisitive science projects.

And to our Family Science Night Committee:
Laura Malloy, Jennifer Williams & Kelly Sullivan

thank you for a super fun night!

Long Beach Schools are closed April 3-10.
I hope you enjoy your spring break and re-energize!

Our next PTA meeting is April 14 at 6:30pm in the library.

Our special guest speaker, LAFD Battalion Chief Alicia Welch,
will cover emergency preparedness.

On Saturday, May 2, Scouts will host their Annual
Pancake Breakfast and Fremont PTA will hold its Used Book Sale.
We are already collecting good condition used books!
Please look for collection boxes located around Fremont.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week is coming up, too!

April 20-24 is a week full of opportunities for us
to show Fremont teachers and staff our appreciation!

Hope you have a wonderful month!

Sincerely,

Michelle Pryor

Meet the Masters

Thursday, April 16, marks our final

Meet the Masters assembly!

Pablo Picasso, a 20th century Spanish painter, is our

featured master.

Meet the Masters is a Southern California company that presents age appropriate histories of artists in a multi-media, interactive, assembly format. After learning about the

artist, our teachers are presented with an art project in the style of the master.  Later, they have the opportunity to create the project with their students.

Parent participation is always needed in the classroom to help with these projects; instruction is provided to teachers and volunteers at 1:45 on the same Thursday as the assembly.  Supplies are provided in the library.

If you'd like to offer your help (no artistic talent needed, really!)

feel free to contact your child's teacher or Teresa Hamilton:

Principal's Message

Achievement Reports went home the week of

March 23rd. Attached to these reports should be a survey for parents to complete. This survey is designed to provide feedback to the committee of teachers and administrators who have been meeting since last year to design the Achievement Reports. Please fill out the survey to give the committee your feedback on the design of the Achievement Reports.

Students in grades 3-5 have starting taking the Smarter Balanced Test. SBAC testing will continue through the month of April and May. The SBAC test is being administered in the library using our laptop computers. Students are familiar with these laptops after using them to take the practice tests. These students will receive a report of their results

from SBAC later this summer.

Finally, April 20-24 is Teacher Appreciation Week!

I am blessed to work for a dedicated and hard working staff that puts in many extra hours to benefit the Fremont students. I applaud what the Fremont teaching staff does every day in developing the minds of their students and helping to promote outstanding citizens. Please let the Fremont teachers know how much they are appreciated.

Mahalo,

Mr. Curran
