Falcon Flyer
January 2015
President's Message

I hope your Winter Break has been full of fun times with friends and family.

It's hard to believe that we are almost half way through the school year!

Fremont was a hopping place all throughout the fall with our amazing volunteers and teachers supporting many wonderful programs for our students.

And here we are, getting ready for some more fun in 2015!

Thank you to so many Fremont PTA volunteers for helping to create
the
unique environment that our children are lucky to learn in:

To our Jog-A-Thon Committee, who wrapped up an huge effort
and have raised over $58,000. What an amazing feat!
Thanks again to Jennifer B. Perez, Sherry Hom, Michele Chaparro,
Dianna Miller, Deborah McGinnis, Aly Mancini, Tanya Moran and Ilja Brejtfus.

To Simone and David Carillo for putting on a really beautiful Holiday Luncheon
for our Fremont Teachers and Staff. Thank you Amy McCleery and Trevor Welch for delectable handmade luncheon desserts. And thank you to Michelle Walker, Jackie McKay and Brenda Sheridan for treating them to the Holiday Nut Mix.

To Robin Jones and all of our Home Reading Club volunteers
for keeping
our scholars excited about reading!

To Teresa Hamilton for keeping our Fremont artists inspired with Meet the Masters.

To Lauren Friedman for chairing both the Fremont Business Partners program and our Helping Hands efforts including the recent Sock Drive and Holiday Toy Drive.

To Jackie McKay for organizing the annual Holiday Food Drive.

To Susan Tanaka, Kathleen Turner, Brenda Sheridan, and all of the
Fremont Drama Club volunteers for keeping our rehearsals running smoothly.
We look forward to the performances of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
on January 24 and 25.
I encourage everyone to attend a performance
whether or not your child is on stage. It's always magical.

We have a fun few months coming up with Drama, SOS, Science Fair, Lab Night, Open House, Screen Free Week, Spring Book Fair, Carnival, Silent Auction and many end of the year celebrations! We couldn't do any of this without you!

Hope to see you all at our PTA meeting on Tuesday, January 13, at 6:30pm

in the library. Mr. Curran will speak about the Smarter Balanced Testing. It's a
great chance to gather information and
ask questions on this important subject.

I look forward to reconnecting and charging into 2015 with you. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please contact me at any time.

Sincerely,

Michelle Pryor

Meet The Masters

Thursday, Jan. 15 marks our third
Meet the Masters assembly for our Fremont artists.

Claude Monet
, a 19th century French Impressionist is our featured master.

Meet the Masters is a Southern California company that presents age appropriate histories of artists in a multi-media, interactive assembly format.  After learning about the artist, our teachers are presented with an art project in the style of the master.  Later, they have the opportunity to create the project with their students.

Parent participation is always needed in the classroom to help with these projects; instruction is provided to teachers and volunteers at 1:45 on the same Thursday as the assembly.  Supplies are provided in the library.

If you'd like to offer your help (no artistic talent needed, really!) feel free to contact your child's teacher or Teresa Hamilton at [email protected].

Principal's Message

Happy New Year!

January 29 is the midpoint of the 2014-15 school year. The month of January has a few important events taking place:

  • The fifth graders will be given information about the middle school application process and get their applications on January 22. Parent information meetings will be on January 22 at 2pm and 6pm in the library.
  • Information from the middle school office will be coming home with students the week of January 5. Applications are due the first week of February.
  • The Education Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 24 at McBride High School from 9am-12pm.  This is a time to visit booths from all of the elementary, middle, and K-8 schools.
  • Fremont will be having an informational meeting on Tuesday, January 13 at 6:30pm on the Smarter Balanced Test. This meeting will be held before the PTA meeting in the library. I will share information regarding what students in grades 3-5 will be assessed on, as well as the timelines for testing at Fremont. We will also share internet resources available for students.

Finally, I want to again encourage parents to make sure that your children arrive to school on time. If your child is sick, please keep them home and call the office to let us and their teacher know. Regular school attendance is important to assist students in achieving their best academically.

Students who ride bicycles and scooters are required
by law to wear a helmet.
Parents of students who
are not wearing a helmet will be contacted to bring
a helmet or take the bike or scooter home.

Aloha,

Mr. Curran
