Greetings! I hope your new year is off to a good start! Now is the time I always plan my intentions for the upcoming year and determine what I will focus on. With all that I have learned the past 3.5 years since we opened our tiny little cottage in the heart of Centerville, THE most valuable thing I have learned is going to be my intention for this coming year and beyond. My truth is "What we place our attention on determines the quality of our lives." I'm going to repeat that: "What we place our attention on determines the quality of our lives!" So how does this truth impact my life? How will this impact the way we do business and work with our clients? I think it will continue to direct and validate our passion for women helping women learn to live their best lives naturally. And how is this different than what many of our trusted doctors are advising, our current standard of care is preaching, our North American Menopause Society is advocating, and what big pharmaceutical companies are advertising? I think it is very different! And I think over the years we have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed into complacency that what these "experts" advise must be the truth. So I look around me and I have to ask the famous Dr. Phil question, "How is this working for us?" How is listening and believing all of this promoting good health? Again, what we place our attention on determines the quality of our lives. So is this working? Is going to our doctors to prescribe us drugs to band aid our symptoms working? Are we better, thinner, healthier, more energetic, more restful, less stressed, happier? I will let you answer that question for yourself, but my truth is that it is not working very well for us. And I will tell you why: TREATING A DISEASE DOES NOT CREATE HEALTH. My second truth! Let me say this again: "treating a disease does NOT create health!" This is the foundation of what we do at our Happy Hormone Cottage. We identify 3 key areas that need work: sex hormones, adrenal glands and thyroid and we work to treat deficiencies is these 3 areas. Focusing on these 3 areas is just the beginning. Once we can establish hormone balance in these 3 areas, we can then direct you to more holistic health healers to work with you in other areas that need attention. Why? Because we want to PREVENT disease: heart disease, breast cancer, osteoporosis, dementia, diabetes, metabolic syndrome. I can pretty much guarantee that going to a doctor to get a drug to deal with the symptoms of these diseases is not going to promote wellness. Again, what we focus on determines the quality of our lives. I was visiting my dad in Florida over the holidays and went to dinner a couple of times with friends of the family. It was a pleasure seeing everyone again and catching up but I looked around and listened to each of their stories and I have to say, I was distressed. Most of these people were in their late middle years, were over weight (from slightly to quite!) and most were on medication for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol; yet when we started talking about making life style changes (exercising, eating clean), one would have thought I had grown 2 heads! Yes, it does take effort to work out and eat differently but the pay off is huge: better health and longevity of life! I know that most people develop disease in their 60's and 70's that can be prevented if they understand these two truths: -Treating a disease does not create health -What you place your attention on determines the quality of your life. I am not willing to settle for anything less. So I am doing the work to learn the truth about how to live my best health naturally and this begins by learning to think for myself and wanting more than to band aid my symptoms. But first I have to determine that I am worth it and that yes, this will take some effort. I realize that using natural hormone therapy, for example, isn't always easy. It does involve rubbing cream on daily! But just like brushing our teeth and flossing, the investment of time is minimal, but the pay off is great. And THEN, we can go to the next step and continue to work holistically for the long haul to keep us healthy and living a high quality of life. THIS is what I am focusing MY attention on.
