Fire Up The Grill with Flavor

Grilling is not only an American pastime during the summer months, but is a preferred cooking method for many foods year-round. Grilling adds smoky flavor and crisp texture to meats, poultry, seafood and even vegetables.

Foods from the grill are often enjoyed on their own, but grilled foods can be added to items like sandwiches, pizza, pastas and salads. While the grilling process adds flavor to many food items, seasonings and marinades can be added to increase flavorability as well.

Flavor & The Menu explains, "Meats cooked on the grill are often marinated first to keep them moist and juicy (as well as tasty) through the high-heat treatment. Smoking deepens grilled flavors, and glazing provides an added dimension to meats and vegetables on the grill. All of this enhances the marketability and appeal of menu items that come off the grill," ("A Dozen Ways to Get More from the Grill," Flavor & The Menu).

Add flavor to your grilled foods with Better Than Bouillon® Food Bases. This convenient and easy-to-use product is available in great tasting, consumer tested flavors. Offered in Premium, All-Natural Reduced Sodium and Organic varieties, Better Than Bouillon® makes a great addition to many grilled items.

Here we've featured a recipe for Deluxe Umami Burgers with Wasabi Pineapple Crab Sauce to highlight the trend of adding new and complex flavor characteristics to grilled foods.

New pizza is canvas for creativity

Schwan's Food Service, Inc. introduces Proof Perfect® Scratch Ready™ product

For operators who offer pizza - and lots of it - a great crust is a must-have. Scratch crust, of course, isn't usually a practical option, and even sheeted dough and dough balls require time-consuming proofing before they can be topped and baked.

Enter new Proof Perfect® Scratch Ready™ pizza from Schwan's Food Service. It's a 16-inch, rolled-edge, pre-proofed crust - so it's ready to go, right from the freezer. And to add yet another time-saving step, the crust is already topped with zesty pizzeria sauce and eight ounces of 100% mozzarella cheese - the perfect starting point for additional toppings.

Because these crusts are pre-proofed, consistency is ensured. The product can also help control costs, because there's no variation on the basic ingredients. And because it goes directly from freezer to oven, it's ideal for unpredictable demand surges.

But arguably the most intriguing feature of this product is its adaptability. For operators who wish they had more time to focus on creativity, Proof Perfect® Scratch Ready™ pizza is a dream come true - its base toppings are only the start for an infinite number of additional ingredients from cheeses to vegetables to meats and more. The crusts can also be thawed before use and stretched and shaped as desired, and the rolled edge can braided or crimped for a decorative, house-made look.
