Steve Staples named Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction

Steve Staples '76, M.Ed. '83, an adjunct faculty member in the William & Mary School of Education, has been named Virginia's Superintendent of Public Instruction. Staples will call upon his extensive experience in public education and as a university professor in his new capacity..

Professor Lori Korinek is among 20 faculty members selected for the 2014 Plumeri Award for Faculty Excellence. This award recognizes exemplary achievements in teaching, research and service. Korinek has been a lifelong educator who has championed inclusive programs and practices in education. 

West Meets East: Best Practices of Expert Teachers in the U.S. and China      

A new book, co-authored by Leslie W. Grant, Ph.D. '06, James H. Stronge, Ph.D., Xianxuan Xu, Ph.D. '10, Patrica A. Popp, Ph.D. '01 Yaling Sun, Ph.D. and Catherine A. Little, Ph.D. '01 examines cross-cultural beliefs and practices of award-winning teachers in the United States and China.
Impact of your gift

Sarah Lilly was the 2013 recipient of the Frederick L. Hill Mathematics Teaching Scholarship. Sarah is currently a student teacher at Pheobus High School, and plans to begin a career as a Mathematics instructor. She will graduate with a M.Ed.in May of 2014. "Working with students at a high needs school is a great opportunity, because I know that they need me and that I am truly making a difference," she said.
