Higher Education Program hosts conversation with Chancellor Gates
Chancellor Robert M. Gates '65, L.H.D. '98 came to the School of Education October 25 to lead a conversation about current issues in higher education. He spoke about the importance of diversity for colleges and universities and shared lessons learned and experiences in his varied leadership roles.

Dr. Martha J. Kanter spoke via Skype with School of Education graduate students about education policy, community colleges and President Obama's proposed college rating model. She concluded with the recommendation that students and faculty get involved in designing the proposed rating system.

A school psychologist with early childhood and preschool assessment expertise, Dr. Bruce Bracken was invited by a publisher to author a suite of early childhood developmental and school readiness tests. The observational scales were published in September and October.

Private giving impacts recruitment of top student candidates
Jamison Miller is the 2013 recipient of the Barton Malow Fellowship. That award persuaded him in his final decision to attend the School of Education at William and Mary. He began his Ph.D. program in fall 2013, with research interests in community colleges, critical university studies, and digital cultures.
