First Annual Library Fundraiser Recap
The National Library of Traditional Medicine (www.nloftm.org) hosted its first Annual Fundraising Conference this past February 23rd, with an interesting and informative speaker's series and a fun silent auction. Representing five main systems of traditional medicine (Asian Medicine, Homeopathy, Biomedicine, Mind-Body medicine, and Indigenous medicines), the authors spoke to a crowd of students, faculty, and members of the public. This year's speakers included Dr. Robert O. Young, Barbara Bayless Lacy, Dr. Gladys McGarey, Dee McCaffrey, Dr. Todd Rowe and Paul Sweeney. They provided the day-long audience a free insight into various topics and inspired many to make positive changes in their lifestyles. A highlight for everyone was "shopping" at the silent auction where bidders were successful at winning Southwest Airline tickets, restaurant certificates, works of Asian art, books, salt room treatments and bodywork therapies, jewelry, wine, and various theme-baskets. The NLofTM was able to raise nearly $2000 to fund an increase in its journal collections and additional shelving. Future fundraising efforts are geared towards eventually building a larger library and increasing staffing. Next year's event is already slated for February 22, 2014, with exciting authors and an expanded silent auction.
