SBN's Buy Local Food Trade Show   
March 19, 2013  
Seaport World Trade Center, Waterfront Ballroom, Boston, MA

This event is designed to facilitate connections and stimulate trade between local buyers and sellers of specialty crop food products and includes expert panels on overcoming barriers to selling and buying local products and open floor trading.
This event is organized by SBN in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MassGrown)  Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance (NAMA) and Health Care Without Harm (HCWH). SBN Buy Local Trade Show space is sponsored by Seaport World Trade Center and the Trade Show is supported in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources.

MA wine  
Western and Eastern Mass Farm and Wine Festivals
Sunday, June 2,  1pm - 6pm at Tri-County Fairgrounds in Northampton
Sunday, July 28th  (schedule to be confirmed), Marshfield Fairgrounds
- a farmers market within a wine festival! 
Coordinated by the MA Farm Winery and Growers Association  
MFWGA is soliciting vendors offering products such as: cheese, chocolate, Massachusetts made specialty foods, handmade crafts, etc.  Food vendors will be able to sample and sell products in packaged form, or on-premise consumption.
Expectations for attendance are high, based on the Association's relationship with Living Social and Groupon for marketing and outreach. 3,000 could attend.
There is no cost to participate. Sales (and sampling) are encouraged.

Guy-friendly foods, "man isles," and male targeted products are appearing in retail locations. Several recent studies have found that the number of men as primary grocery shopper has increased. An ESPN report says it has doubled to 31%, global media agency BPN put the number at 40%, and Yahoo claimed 51%. Male-Targeted Flavors and Ingredients: Bacon, Beef, Beer, Buffalo wing, Hot sauce, Jalapeño, Pizza, and  Whiskey.

Top 10 at Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco. A panel of food writers and journalists have picked the top five food trends for 2013.
1. Botanical Beverages such as broccoli tea
2. Nouveau oils- such as coconut
3. Return of blue cheese
4. Lots of seeds like flax chia cereal
5. Bananas- like banana peanut butter
6. fruit-infused vinegars,
7. chips with a healthy glow such as fuji apple chips
8. peppery sweets such as cayenne shortbread
9. agave
10. and single serve sizes

USA Today- hottest food trends from Fancy Food Show:
1. Coconut
2. vegetables & fruit oils such as pumpkin or tomato seed oil
3. beer as an ingredient
4. heritage foods
5. Herbs in drinks
6. Spicy in sweets

Popcorn, again, called Out as a Top Trend in 2013. Reinforcing other media outlets declarations, Time magazine calls gourmet and artisanal popcorn the hottest snack food of 2013. Today's popcorn has gone seriously decadent, flavored with everything from black truffles to Campari to wasabi. Americans eat around 16 billion quarts of popcorn a year, according to The Popcorn Board.

accounting for 36 percent of total new ideas being incubated, according to
Wicked Start, an online startup accelerator. With the proliferation of customized diets, food allergies and the increased demand for innovative and artisanal food and beverage products, there is ample opportunity for startups to create, launch and showcase their products at farmers markets and with local grocers.
