NCC Releases FAQs for Healthcare Providers
|
The National Chlamydia Coalition has released 10 Frequently Asked Questions for healthcare providers  . The questions span a range of topics, including talking to patients about sexual health, retesting after treatment, preferred specimen types for screening, and screening males for chlamydia. Each response includes links to relevant resources. In the future, new questions will be added to the series. If you are a provider and would like to submit a FAQ for consideration, please use the " Contact Us" webpage. Please include in the message box that your question is for the FAQ webpage.

Updated Laboratory Billing Decision Tool Now Available Online
|
The JSI/Denver Sexual Health & Reproductive Hea  lth Promotion Training & Technical Assistance Center (SHRP-TTAC) team is pleased to announce that its Laboratory Billing Decision Tool has been updated and is now an online interactive tool. The intent of this tool is to provide an introduction to and guidance for billing, coding, and reimbursement for Public Health Laboratories that are either not currently billing third-party payers at all or not billing them proficiently. Users are directed to resources targeted to each specific billing challenge.

Upcoming Webinar: STD Prevention Science Series
|
The CDC and the American Sexually Transmitted Diseases Association will host a webinar on Thursday, June 2 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm (ET). "A Journey through Syphilis: How does Treponema pallidum cause such a complex disease?" is the latest in the STD Prevention Science Series. Dr. Sheila Lukehart of the University of Washington will discuss how the host's immune system and bacteria interact, and their implications for syphilis control. Minnesota Holds 2nd Annual Statewide STI Testing Day
|
Minnesota held its second statewide STI Testing Day on April 12th. Fifty-four clinics across the state provided low-cost or free testing for chlamydia and other STIs and free condoms. Preliminary data show that at least 328 people were tested for STIs with an overall positivity rate of 8%. Nearly all cases were for chlamydia. In advance of the event, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton issued a proclamation that Tuesday, April 12, 2016 was STI Testing Day. The event was organized by Community Restoring Urban Youth Sexual Health (CRUSH), a local youth coalition, in collaboration with the MN Chlamydia Partnership and the Minneapolis Department of Health. The MN Chlamydia Partnership was formed through the NCC's mini-grant program.

Youth Providers 2.0 Initiative Releases New Clinical Resources
|
The Youth Providers 2.0 (YP2.0) initiative - a collaboration between the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM) and Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health-has released five compilations of Adolescent and Young Adult Clinical Care Resources on the following topics: Sexual and Reproductive Health, Confidentiality, Mental Health, Substance Use, and Physical and Psychosocial Development.
The Adolescent and Young Adult Clinical Care Resources are intended to provide guidance on a wide variety of topics to healthcare providers and youth serving professionals. Each one contains clinical care guidelines and resources, such as training materials, screening tools, videos, webinars, and toolkits. All resources included are free of cost; specific to adolescents or regarding a population which includes adolescents; and open access or accessible after the creation of a free login. Most of the resources included are applicable in the U.S. and some are internationally applicable.
YP2.0 has also published complementary online resource compilations aimed specifically at adolescents and parents. Healthcare providers and youth serving professionals can offer these one-pagers to adolescents, young adults, parents, and caregivers who are looking for online resources, support groups, peer networks, helplines, treatment locators, and advocacy opportunities.

CDC Issues Updated Guidelines for PEP After Non-Occupational Exposure to HIV
|
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued new guidelines on post-exposure prophylaxis after non-occupational exposure to HIV. These guidelines include additional evidence regarding the use of nPEP (non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis), an updated schedule of laboratory evaluations of source and exposed persons, new treatment regimens, and a suggested procedure for transitioning a patient nPEP and PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis).
