New Spanish-Language ACA Resource Center

The Kaiser Family Foundation launched a new Spanish-language consumer resource center to explain how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) may impact individuals and families throughout the US. The center features a Spanish-language subsidy calculator, which allows consumers to estimate health insurance premiums and tax credits within the ACA marketplaces, as well as Spanish-language versions of "Obamacare and You" fact sheets.

Study Examines Link Between College Women's Use of Substances and Condoms
|
A new study from researchers at The Miriam Hospital, published online in the Journal of Sex Research, finds a link between alcohol consumption and reduced condom use among college women. Looking at data from 1,856 sexual events reported by 297 first-year college women, researchers found a negative association between the number of drinks and condom use. The findings also indicate that when a woman has been dating a romantic partner for three months or more, marijuana use may also increase the risk of unprotected sex.

Guide for LGBT People Choosing Healthcare Plans

Strong Families recently released a new resource, "Where t o Start, What to Ask: A guide for LGBT people choosing healthcare plans." This guide provides a template for the questions one should ask to get answers about cost and coverage, reproductive healthcare, transgender healthcare, finding insurance if you are HIV-positive or living with AIDS, covering LGBT youth and many other LGBT health needs.

NCSD Factsheet Highlights how STD Prevention Strengthens HIV Prevention
|
The National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD) released a new fact sheet, "STD Prevention: Strengthening the Approach to HIV Prevention." This fact sheet highlights research that demonstrates how HIV and other STDs are overlapping epidemics and suggests that reducing the burden of the national STD epidemic has the additional benefit of improving HIV prevention.

CDC Releases Results from 2012 School Health Profiles
|
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released the 2012 School Health (Profiles) survey results. The release includes a comprehensive report of results; a fact sheet describing Profiles and highlighting key 2012 results; a fact sheet for each state, large urban school district, territory, and tribal government that reports results from the 2012 Profiles and the 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Survey; all questionnaires and item rationales; and information on how to obtain Profiles datasets.
