Archive of STD Coding Webinar Now Available
|
On August 7th the Region I STD-Related Reproductive Health Training and Technical Assistance Center sponsored a national webinar, "Introduction to Coding and Documentation for STD Services." An archive of the webinar and associated resource materials are now available. The webinar provided an overview of coding and documentation for STD services, including a review of ICD-9 / diagnosis / CPT coding for common STD services, understanding coding for evaluation and management visits, and the use of modifiers.

SHRE Featured Resource: Using Birth Control Pills
|
"Using Birth Control Pills Regularly for Successful Contraception," a fact sheet uploaded by the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP), is a two page fact sheet that discusses how to effectively use the birth control pill, including tips for maintaining constancy and what to do if you if you have gone off schedule. This fact sheet is part of the larger ARHP Health Matters resource and is also available in Spanish. For more useful sexual health resources, including fact sheets on a variety of other sexually transmitted diseases, check out the Sexual Health Resource Exchange (SHRE)!

One in Three Youths Report Being Victims of Dating Violence
|
According to new research presented at the American Psychological Association's annual conference, approximately one in three American youths age 14-20 say they have been o f victims of dating violence, and almost one in three acknowledge they have committed violence toward a date. Researchers analyzed information collected in 2011 and 2012 from 1,058 youths in the Growing Up with Media study. The study defines teen dating violence as physical, sexual or psychological/emotional violence within a dating relationship.

The Federal Training Center Collaborative is hosting a Sexual and Reproductive Health Webinar Series. This series of six free webinars will provide information and tools to help healthcare providers better serve the sexual and reproductive health needs of their patients. The first webinar, "Routinizing Sexual Health Into Primary Care: Models for FQHCs," will be held on September 10, 2013 at 12:00 pm ET. Continuing education credit is available.

SoTheyCanKnow.org is designed to increase rates of partner notification among patients diagnosed with STIs. The free website provides tips, scripts, and videos to help patients notify their partners, and even allows partners to send anonymous emails.
