Definition of Bumping the Base

Sincere thanks to those who participated in the Bump the Base Survey. The survey is now closed and the results are open to the public if you wish to access the responses. Results link.
We are currently designing another survey to help garner more specific information on this same topic, bumping the base.
While we interpret the data about bumping the base terminology, here are a few interesting statistics from this survey.

Total responses: 381
46% are Board Certified.
78% are serious haircolorists (over 5 color services per week) with 10+ years experience.
47% thought that haircolor was 50% creative & 50% scientific
31% thought that haircolor was 75% scientific & 25% creative
Please watch for the second Bump the Base survey in the next few weeks.

Haircolor Trends From the 2013 Spring Runways

The Pantone color for 2013 is Emerald green, but you won't be seeing it in hair just yet. The spring runways offered more of the same color trends, re-warmed for 2013. How does that translate into what you might see in your salon?

* Those clients who always want something new and hot will need to continue the              extreme changes to feed the color monster inside. YAY! $$

* Those clients who are slow to climb on the color trend train will finally decide to try            something different with the now familiar balayage, ombre and brond. YAY! $$

* Those clients with more adventurous souls might explore the various shade of gray          (pun intended) with the continuing popularity of pastel purple, blue, green, and pink.          YAY! $$

Even traditional silver gray is a challenging haircolor to create. The bottom line for a successful gray tonal color is competency in your bleach knowledge techniques. The Energizing Summit will offer several classes this year to improve your bleach knowledge and skills: Knowing and Understanding Bleaches- Craig Miller, The Hazards of Bleach - Tom Maricich, The Art of Double-Process Haircolor - Bonnie Ray
