1. When you're heading out or headed to bed, be sure you don't lower your thermostat more than 5 degrees cooler than your normal rating. Heating your home back up requires more energy.
2. Clean warm air registers, baseboard heaters, and/or radiators. Also be sure these are not blocked with furniture, curtains, or anything of the like.
3. Get a heating tuneup. This not only helps save money but it also assures you that everything is in working order and safe for your use.
4. Have your ductwork checked for leaks.Split or leaky ductwork can cost you a bundle.
5. Change your return air filters.
6. Consider storm windows or more efficient windows.
7. Lower the temperature on your dishwasher and washing machine.
