Department of Health and Human Services announces partnership with technology company PayNearMe to encourage consumers to visit Health Insurance Marketplace

During this year's Open Enrollment period, all PayNearMe receipts printed at 7,800 7-Eleven stores nationwide will include a special announcement that informs consumers about upcoming Affordable Care Act deadlines and encourages them to explore beneficial options such as tax credits and newly available plans at HealthCare.gov. Putting these reminders at the bottom of PayNearMe receipts will help get health coverage information into the hands of traditionally hard-to-reach consumers. Because PayNearMe receipts serve as a consumer's proof of payment for important items such as rent, loans and utilities, they are more likely to be inspected and retained than a traditional receipt.

As stated in the open letter to membership in the Oct. issue of Round-up Magazine, the Maricopa County Medical Society has operated under outdated bylaws that were last revised in 1992.

The reason for the lack of more recent updates is the  cumbersome nature of the process for making Amendments pursuant to our existing bylaws.

As such, the Board of Directors would like to amend the bylaws so that future revisions are easier to implement. In order to do so, we need your vote.

It's easy - one question to answer and your name will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of six prizes. The grand prize is a $500 Amazon gift card! Five $100 Visa gift cards will also be awarded to five lucky members who cast their vote.

All votes MUST BE received by 5 pm, December 24, 2014. There are two ways to cast your vote: Ballots were mailed out December 10, or you can click here to vote electronically. Please vote only once.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the Maricopa County Medical Society.

Arizona Medical License Applications Review - Status Update
In accordance with the Arizona State Legislature's recommendations, the Arizona Medical Board ("Board") is in the process of reviewing all medical license applications approved between October 1, 2011 and February 5, 2014.  The purpose of this review is to ascertain whether these applications were statutorily complete and approved in accordance with state law.

To assist the Board in this process, it has contracted with the Greater Arizona Central Credentialing Program (GACCP) a business service associated with the Maricopa County Medical Society. Paul Ryan's bid to overhaul Medicare to resurface in new Congress

The next Republican budget will look a lot like those written by exiting House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan, eliminating deficits in 10 years and calling again for a massive revamp of the federal Medicare program, Ryan's replacement said on Friday.

Representative Tom Price, who takes the reins of the U.S. House budget panel in January, told reporters he will "build on" Ryan's proposals by devising ways to put more federal benefits programs under the control of states.

Ryan will take over as chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. Over the past four years, he used his budgets to articulate a vision for Republican priorities that elevated him to the national political stage, even though none were passed by the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Ryan's budget last year sought deep cuts to social safety net programs in order to achieve balance by the mid 2020s.

Price, a physician with four years on the Budget Committee, said a Republican-controlled Congress can now advance policies pioneered by Ryan, including his controversial Medicare plans.

Those plans would scale back the popular social insurance program for the elderly and disabled by limiting beneficiaries to a set amount of money every year to buy private healthcare insurance.

Known as "premium support," the program as envisioned by Ryan would mark a dramatic shift from the current Medicare system, under which the federal government helps pay for all medical services that an individual uses.
