Electronic Medical Records, Built for Efficiency, Often Backfire
| |
Written by Scott Hensley, published in Shots: Health News from NPR.
Electronic medical records were supposed to usher in the future of medicine
Prescriptions would be beamed to the pharmacy. A doctor could call up patients' medical histories anywhere, anytime. Nurses and doctors could easily find patients' old lab results or last X-rays to see what how they're doing. The computer system could warn doctors about dangerous drug combinations before it was too late.
Many of those things are an everyday reality in doctors' offices and hospitals across the country. But a survey of more than 400 internists with experience using electronic medical records, or EMRs, documents what doctors have complained about for years: computerized records chew up a lot of time. Arizona Medical License Applications Review - Status Update
| | In accordance with the Arizona State Legislature's recommendations, the Arizona Medical Board ("Board") is in the process of reviewing all medical license applications approved between October 1, 2011 and February 5, 2014. The purpose of this review is to ascertain whether these applications were statutorily complete and approved in accordance with state law.
To assist the Board in this process, it has contracted with the Greater Arizona Central Credentialing Program ("GACCP") a business service associated with the Maricopa County Medical Society. Among other things, GACCP will be evaluating the application files of those physicians whose applications were approved during this time period. As part of this process, GACCP may be contacting you for purposes of obtaining information or documentation necessary to comply with the statutory licensing requirements.
Should you be contacted by the GACCP to provide additional information or documentation, the Board anticipates that you will provide the requested information in a timely manner. Your cooperation and assistance is greatly appreciated. Should you have any questions regarding this matter, feel free to contact GACCP at AMBproject@azcvo.com.

Facilities will have 15 days to review their ratings. CMS expects to post ratings to Dialysis Facility Compare in January 2015. CMS presented the DFC Star Rating methodology earlier this year, and provided a 30-day preview period during which dialysis facilities had the opportunity to review their ratings. In response to stakeholder concerns, CMS delayed rollout of the Star Ratings on DFC from October 2014 until January 2015. This allowed CMS to receive comments, consider modification of the methodology, and respond to the dialysis community's comments . Read more >>
