Goodbye Round-up

My heroes have always been doctors. Not Welby, Quincy, or Hawkeye. Real doctors; whose skill and commitment change lives, like my mother's. It would take years of education for me to understand she was born with a spontaneous mutation in a somatic chromosome, which encoded a collagen protein, leaving her with misshapen, arthritic femoral heads since adolescence. She suffered in silence. But as a child, I saw the truth in my mother's face as she grit her teeth when her hips hurt so badly she couldn't stand to raise her five kids. And I was so grateful to the Orthopedic Surgeons who "fixed" her with surgeries that were years ahead of their time. I knew that those gifted doctors, and the surgeries they performed, were the only thing standing between my Mother and a wheelchair.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Elections Concluded, New Executive Board Members Announced
Elections for the Maricopa County Medical Society Board of Directors have concluded, and we are pleased to announce the new Executive Board Members for 2014:
Ryan Stratford, MD (President-elect)
Elizabeth McConnell, MD (Vice President)
Mark Wallace, MD (Treasurer)
Suzanne Sisley, MD (Secretary).
Miriam Anand, MD will serve as President of the Society for 2014, after serving as President-elect this year under current President Daniel Lieberman, MD. Additionally, four new members to the Board of Directors were elected for new three year terms (2014-2016): Richard Manch, MD (West Valley District), Anita Murcko, MD (Scottsdale District), Warren Moody, MD (Central District), and Lee Ann Kelley, MD (Central District). Three additional members were elected to the Board to Directors to fill vacant seats for 2014: Susan Whitely, MD, Tanja Gunsberger, DO, and Jennifer Hartmark-Hill, MD.
Congratulations to our new Board Members and for their willingness to serve the Society in 2014 and beyond!
