This strategy earned him the nickname "40 second Boyd" for his uncanny ability to shoot down an enemy plane quickly. Once an action has occurred, the process starts over. Prior to joining the Maricopa County Medical Society, Dr. Jay Conyers was a health care executive in Washington, DC, where he ran a consulting firm that provided strategic business services for regional clients with an emphasis on health IT, telemedicine, and healthcare reform.  Before his tenure in Washington, he spent nearly a decade on the faculty at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, where he held academic appointments in cardiology, trauma surgery, and biomedical engineering and secured more than $125 million in extramural funding for biomedical research.  He founded the Alliance for NanoHealth and Center for Translational Injury Research while in Houston, and has recently organized and chaired health policy workshops in Washington, DC for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.  He holds a Ph.D. in physical/analytical chemistry from the University of Utah and a B.S. in chemistry from Trinity University.
